What songs has Prince NOT given credit to others for?

I heard 'possessed' talks alot about this.

What i know of;

Andre created the bassline for 'i'm yours'. He also created the bass on 'uptown' and 'do me baby' and 'why you wanna'.

Dez came up with the rhythm for 'when doves cry'

Plz carry on;

Here's some for starters. (I'm merely stating them as is, no judgement attached, or
saying a 'groove' or 'bassline' constitutes uncredited writing of the entire song
in it's released form, before any crybabies jump on me with their purple high-heels).....

> My Love Is Forever
Chris Moon not credited for lyrics.

> Party Up
Based on a 'groove' that Morris Day came up with.

> Uptown
Based around a bassline by Andre Cymone.

> Do Me, Baby
Worked on by Prince & Andre Cymone in '79. Cymone & Pepe Willie claim the song was written by Andre.

> The Belle Of St. Mark
Based on a rhythm track by Jesse Johnson

> Kiss
Just IMO - but this is David Z and Mazarati's music, to Prince lyrics.

> Jungle Love
Jesse Johnson claims co-writing credits.

Conversly:

Mazarati's 'Strawberry Lover' and 'I Guess It's All Over' both feature lyrical input by Prince, uncredited.

Wasn't it only recently that he credited Wendy and Lisa with "Purple Rain"?
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

When has Dez made such a claim?

He makes no suggestion of this in his book as far as I recall.

And for the record, being in a band and contributing a bass line to a song really doesn't count as creating that song. It is a bit unfair to say credit for the song was not given. Michael B's drum fill in Diamonds and Pearls makes that song in my opinion, but I don't think he wrote the song based on his unique contribution.

Wendy and Lisa don't have any credit for the writing of 'Purple Rain' itself, other than in the storyline of the film.

However, Lisa and Prince are credited on the album liner notes for the string arrangement at the end of the song, with Wendy and Lisa credited with 'conducting' the players.

Man, I have an image of an interview in my mind where Prince says something to the effect of "and yes Wendy and Lisa wrote Purple Rain"

Maybe he was being sarcastic,... or I made it up in my mind.

I suspect that Wendy & Lisa contributed to many songs that will never be credited.

Yes, Prince has not credited others for their input on some songs,
but he's also given credit to others for songs they didn't write.
He certainly seemed to give out credit pretty randomly back in the day

lol

well, they had to demand writing credit for Power Fantastic... Wendy herself explains that they did not write purple rain but helped "flesh" the song out while performing...that all the members of the Revolution did such but that the song itself was written by prince.

on the Purple Rain 2-dvd set (disc 2), Wendy says that Prince laid the original licks, and while in a car, she fleshed them out some more. She then says something to the effect that "no we didn't write Purple Rain, but did we help?--Yes."

Man, I have an image of an interview in my mind where Prince says something to the effect of "and yes Wendy and Lisa wrote Purple Rain"

Maybe he was being sarcastic,... or I made it up in my mind.

Wendy said in late 1998 that she and Lisa co-wrote Purple Rain. I remembered like it was yesterday that it was the talk of the months when I was a regular on AMP and back when AMP used to be the shit, with users took sides with either Wendy and Lisa or Prince, bashing each other. It got emotional and ugly at times just like some of the topics in P&R. Then Wendy and Lisa made another interview like few weeks later or so and didn't mention any more about it other than saying "We hold no grudge" or something. So Prince must have said something to them and they never mention about that claim in public again. I don't know why she said the opposite in 1998 but in 2004 she said in a like careful tone We help but didn't wrote Purple Rain. Anyhoo, I still think that Wendy and Lisa deserved the co-write credit on Purple Rain not Computer Blue.

Only in paper, in reality all the money went to one guy.

And even when people were properly credited, they didn't always get their money:

Dr Fink has also complained about not getting money owed.

Prince is well-known for failing to pay his bills:

Exact quote here:

http://groups.google.com/...7c5d5a2bd5

[INT:] The song he claims is yours in the film, "Purple Rain," isn't even
one where you get a writing credit. Instead, you got a writing
credit for "Computer Blue"...

Wendy: Prince always wanted money and control, period. Lisa
and I wrote "Purple Rain." We came to rehearsal with the melody
and the idea, and then over the next two days everyone worked
on it and fleshed it out. But for "Computer Blue," we just
contributed a keyboard line. That's writing? You just never knew
what [credit] he would give you.

When they say 'wrote'; they mean the music. Prince nearly always wrote the lyrics.

Those albums(84-86) say produced, composed, arranged, e.tc. by Prince and THE REVOLUTION!

Yeah, but there are also writing credits for each individual song - in those days they were usually on the LP label itself next to the name of the track - and those r the ones that count for the cash!!

I hate as a nnewbie to be the one who says this outloud. Prince during the years that Jesse, Dez, Wendy and Lisa were around was his most prolific. Since they have been away he has not been as prolific. Yes he is still one of the greatest who ever did it. It is clear that he help some kinda asisst from the team. Be it small or big those people around gave him some help. Some of the cases may not be worth giving credit for. Others he may be dead wrong. Looking at the position he was in at the time that his 'core' from the revolution era was gone. He did not make anything nearly as mind blowing as when the revolution was around. So the arguement can be made that credit is deserved and he should put that team back together. IMHO
