What Song Did it For You?

This is not about your favorite song. But which song hooked you in and made you start to like Prince. For me it was When Doves Cry back in '84. It was something about the opening, that guitar, that made it so interesting. Never listened to Prince before that. Ofcourse when I saw the video, I was like, hmmmmm. When Doves Cry opened up the door and pave the way for many years to come.

Dolphin is what made me love him. To be completely honest, his performance of P. Control at the VH1 fahion awards was what caught my attention. I was so shocked, because I was pretty sheltered before that. But at the same time, I was strangely intrigued...

I don't know which, but it was one of these two and the fact that the same person did both of them -- that's what got me interested... and then when I saw the videos, I was hooked for good!

"1999" and "Little Red Corvette"

The first song I heard from Prince was "I Wanna Be Your Lover"... What was that... 1978? 1979??

My sister was playing it, as she always did with her newest ALBUMS, and I froze... I thought, cool song, great female singer.

Then I saw the album cover... What???? it's a dude!?!

I checked out the rest of the album, the rest is history.

Thanks Sis. hug

Anotherloverholenyohead - had sort of liked some of the stuff prior to that, but this song (probably because of the title) really drew me into listening to what Prince was doing. Fell in love with the song, fell in love with the singer.

Me too. That song blew me offa my socket. It mixed so many musical styles and was so special it made me buy the album.

I loved Little Red Corvette and 1999, both hits in Holland, but that song did it for me.

i was only young dancing around the front room to my dad's cd's when no-one was in, coz he was like "don't ever touch my records!" and he had loads of cd's of this guy called prince, so i just picked one, put it on random and it was "thieves in the temple", i was hooked then it just evolved into listening ever album after that and i've never looked back x x lol

that's a very intermate question don't you think? hmm
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

Do you mean "intimate"? If so no, but you don't have to reveal yours if you don't want to. wink

Definitely If I Was Your Girlfriend. I still feel the song has it all: edgy lyrics, great music and Camille. This is the kind of music I'd like to make some day, I mean "the spirit of it".
