3121 is much better. I can listen to it all the way through without skipping a track. There is no way I could listen to Musicology without skipping LOTP, Cinnamon Girl, A Million Days and ICPC.

How could you skip a million days? thats prolly my favorite track between the two albums. Musicology is a better IMO.

To be honest, Musicology and 3121 have sort of run together into one "era" in my mind. Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com

I love both albums.
But maybe Musicology is a tiny bit better than 3121 IMO.

No. Id' take Musicology over 3121. I'd take something else if there was another choice. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

I prefer 3121, I think the songs are a bit better, but I think on the whole you're totally right. I can't say one is "light years ahead" or "vastly superior." Neither is quite what I would have hoped for from Prince, but 3121 is closer to what Musicology tried to be. My Legacy

3121 is a decent to good album
Musicology is one of the worst Prince albums ever, lyrically (minus Reflection) it is the worst.

A million days is probably the weakest track on the album .imo the sound reminds me of "strays of the world". The rest of musicology is good material. But 3121 as a whole is superior. Stand Up! Damn we dislike almost all the same songs on Musicology. And I agree I can listen to 3121 all the way through, but not Musicology. Seems some are not comparing the albums as much as they are comparing the promotion and tour or lack of a tour in the case of 3121. Which I find a little odd due to the number of people who bashed Musicology on a daily basis when it was released. . [Edited 7/24/06 16:41pm] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Musicology will age far better than 3121
No way Fury is produce the way it is on 3121 during Musicology period 3121 is still fresh, so maybe my post was too early 3121 with the exception of the title track all sound like NPS/Rave outtakes.

3121 is way better than Musicology because Musicology still sounds like he was playing it safe, plain and simple. 3121 sounds way more complex and funky and shows Prince's different sounds incredibly. But I like both albums... Check me out and add me on:

In my opinion, the best tracks of musicology, combined with the best tracks of 3121, would make his best CD since The Gold Experience.
The Rainbow children has some nice musical moments, but they are totally overshadowed by smallminded, ignorant lyrics.

and further on: Musicology might be my favorite disc, because it has a more organic, natural sound, reaching back to the 50's, 60's, 70's, but sounding more timeless (The title track, Call my name, On the couch, Dear mr. man and Reflection especially)
3121 might be better in general when it comes to the compositions, but like some musical critic stated, Prince takes elements of his own musical past, but doesnt them take any further to be really interesting of fresh. I think in 5 or 10 years people will say 3121 sounds very dated, and that Musicology will be appreciated better for its traditional, timeless music.
