Why "Peach" at MTV Europe Awards I´m a big fan o the song "peach". But I have always wondered why he chose that song. It couldnt be because of some promotion due to its release date were one year ago then. Why didn´t he pick a song from "Come" or the "TGE", it would make more sense. Does anyone have any opinion about this, I know it´s quite a nerdy question, but it has been naggin me for a while.

I've always wondered about this too - I know they also rehearsed Race for the show, and I guess he just decided this would be a more fun way to rock out at the end of the show. The intro to his performance is classic too - especially the music the band plays as he's walking up and ignoring Tom Jones.

uhm, perhaps because MTV had been reporting for weeks that he would come
on the show and perform SEVERAL NEW SONGS from The Gold Experience. i don't know, i think somehow either MTV or Warners ticked him off becuz at the time that would have been THE best platform for promoting the cd, regardless of who was gonna release it. as far as i could tell back then it was yet again a big to W.B. or perhaps to MTV for not playing his new video (which he was ticked off about at the time as well, wasn't he? or was that shortly after this??). anyway, imo it was not just a coincidence that he played "Peach" and not one of the Gold Experience songs. it was a deliberate poke in the eye to someone. i'm sure other people more in the know can tell more about this. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I remember Steve Blame from "MTV News" announcing the new material, too. Therefore, I was slightly disappointed when only "Peach" was performed, though it really rocked and was the best performance that night imo. The only reason I could imagine was the battle with WB over who is releasing TGE. Maybe it was already obvious to Prince, when the show took place, that he couldn't have a realistic chance to release it independently on NPG Records without WB being involved, so he didn't want to promote it??? Boris? Langebleu?

oooh I didn´t know that they rehearsed "Race", that would´ve been kind of slick to do that song. But I am pretty happy with the result, even if would´ve been really cool seeing him perform a song like "Loose!", that would´ve fucking rocked. First Loose, and then "Peach" straight after! good lord....

Boris? Langebleu? Yeah, but "Peach" was released in 1993. By the time of the MTV performance (autumn 1994), it was more than a year old.

Did he mention something about George Michael before the song?

IIRC, it was: "Peace to Geroge Michael - peace to Aerosmith - and death to Prince." (Both George Michael and Aerosmith performed on the same show, George sang "Jesus to a Child", I think.)
