He's so avant garde and over the top in his style and what he sings about. I mean if he wants to wear make up, he will. If he wants to sing brashly about sex, he will. This is the man who wore high heeled boots, wore pounds of make up, a cap with chains on it and sang into a microphone shaped like a gun and people were tripping over themselves to get to him. Prince knows who he is and what he's doing. He's not taking crap from anyone. That's why he's up there with the likes of Elvis, Madonna, Michael Jackson and James Brown. He takes everything you think you know and rearranges it. I learned to push the envelope from MJ but I learned to put the envelope through the shredder from Prince.
What I have gained from Prince is to just be who you are and rock at it! Plus he is sexy as sin! MADONNA???? Voice range limited, can't play an instrument. Outta P's league. Boy, those rap moves on one of her recent videos were humiliating. Maybe she doesn't realize it, but THAT was a humbling experience.

What do I see in Prince?
The same thing I see in Muhammad Ali--- The Greatest of All time. Prince is completely unique, yet takes the greatest elements of pop music and makes it something different, something authentic, something purple, something all his own. It's dance music sex romance... what more could anybody want? "New Power slide...."

there've been other musical groups and acts that have come and gone, wowed and fluttered, faded in and faded out in my musical childhood. outta all of 'em, prince has had the most staying power. I'm 28 and I share your same sentiments. He is the living legend of our generation and his genre-straddling brilliance introduced me to so many other legends that influenced him. However, his music will always be number one with me. [Edited 7/17/06 23:03pm]

He is very talented. I've gotten the pleasure to see him in concert 3 times and he is mind blowing live. Hes a great writer and musician. Not to many of my friends don't listen to him because they want to listen to shitty music that has no soul to it and the artist is just used for someone else to get rich because they don' write it, they just perform. It seems like some people are scared to say they listen to him because they are scared of what people will think of him but I don't care. And I like the fact that he does different types of music because I am a music lover therefore its only right that I am a Prince fan. U can cut off all my fins - But 2 your ways I will not bend

I also like the different styles of music Prince does. Let's Go Crazy was the first rock-type song I ever liked. I was stricly rap and R&B before Purple Rain came out. Now when I listen to music, I've learned to appreciate all parts of a song rather than just focusing on the beats. Which is why Prince's live shows to me are great.

I'm too tired to rip this post. If I wasn't too tired, ... oh nevermind. I'm too tired. BUT... I will stand up and make a comment here. If you're calling How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore... a LACKLUSTER Prince song... then you have no soul whatsoever. This is arguably one of Prince's top ten songs. The piano, the passion, the range... PLEASE don't get me started. Compared to Prince, Alecia Keyes... with the utmost respect... is Vanilla Ice. Seriously. She can play the piano? Give her a cookie. She's fine as hell? Since when does that translate into being the GOAT? I do respect her for the fact that she's not out there with her ass up in the camera like 90 percent of all the other female rappers/R&B singers who've sold their soul to the equation that states that Visual Sex Sells Records (There are some PATHETIC sell-outs out there. "Hi, Li'l Kim." ... just to name one), but I'm sorry to disappoint you... Alecia Keyes is nowhere near the caliber of Prince. Can she even dance... or does she just sit behind the piano at her concerts and raise her arms once in a while? The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

Renato said: One of the reasons I was attracted to Prince is his sense of individuality. Plus he always seems to be in control of everything, knowing exactly what he wants, not even needing a band and selling millions of records without selling out. His music took a while to get used to, mainly because of the 80's style production on some of his albums, but now that I'm able to hear past it or even like it, I'm getting the reward.
80's production----I believe you mean engineering! Production is the guidance of an artists musical course.Sorry

Same reasons most of the fans like him. I like his music and I like watching him perform. He plays a pretty hefty number of genres, and has done most of them well. He's attractive, but in an unusual way. Or was I supposed to have a different answer because Purple Rain came out a year before I was born? "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
