I think so.

I HATED it at first, but after seeing it live I can appreciate the music but the lyrics and transitions are BRUTAL.

If you're a Prince fan you probably should own all his music IMO.

BTW I hope you have albums before the last 10 because if not you're missing out on the best stuff.

I can listen to it without thinking, mostly because I can't ever understand a damn thing he's saying. And that's a blessing because if I could, I would probably throw the CD out the window.

I would it's the best album Prince has done in years. It's Teriffic.

It's terrific musically. The lyrics may offend. But punk rock has been offending people for years.

Did I just compare TRC to punk?

Enjoy it for what it is, not for what it says. Unless you think that Prince is one of the great thinkers of our time.

Oh, and do indeed get his back catalog. Scour the used bins for the out of print stuff...it's worth the effort.

I'd definately recommend it if you like challenging music. If you're more into the hits or into straightforward pop, this is probably not your type of album. It is musically one of his most complex, with elements from jazz, soul, funk and gospel. the lyrics are preachy, but top my (atheistic..) ears not too intrusive.

maybe you should listen to it before you buy it.

If you like Prince's music get it. It is one of my favorites. In the beginning I thought some of the synthesized (spelling?) voice stuff was distracting. That was only when it was new. I love it. I Listen to it all the time. Musicially, it is one of his best. I am not into organized religions, but I feel it spiritually too. I like the whole CD.

I enjoyed it even more after seeing the ONA show.

I guess I take the religious aspects of it pretty seriously, since he hammers his message throughout with typically awful Prince editing. I hate the damn Rainbow Children

if you like albums as a whole, then definately get it...

if you only like commercial stuff, then maybe not...

if you are secure enough in your own beliefs and can jam on music regardless, get it...

if you are looking to prince for a license to do whatever you please in life and have expectations of who he should be, better not...

if you can really appreciate an eclectic array of sounds and ideas as only prince can deliver, betta head to the wrecka stow right now...

and finally, if you have truly been listening to prince over the years (especially in betwwen the lines) and you want to hear the first real "prince" album in years, get it and then try to listen to it all the way through the first time...

use your hard earned money to buy a live version of it, i know of a couple

If you were a brand new fan who only had "Rave" or "NPS" in your collection, then maybe I could understand why our opinion of TRC would either encourage or discourage you from buying it. But having all of those other albums, it just doesn't make sense to me why you would suddenly be so hesitant to buy TRC. And like I said before, if everyone here says don't buy it, are you not going to buy it just because we said so??? And you don't have to answer me of course, but I'm just trying to understand the importance of Prince.org member's opinion in your decision process.
