Is it time 4 a new cd since this one is dying

Man this one [3121]held so much promise,i really though it was friendly enough 4 radio.but I relize they are not looking 4 music, they want the lattest thug sound or the new sex symbol[beyonce or brittany]notes and bridges are not on the agenda, I dare u walk into a record company acompanied by some real music u want to sell.u will get kicked out.Come with your hat on backwards and pants hanging off rapping about bling,u are contract bound.Since prince is not going to get played on the radio he should just let us have another cd. I'll take a double cd this time.and why does he stop pushing his singles out there so quickly, seems he does not give them a chance. And next time, maybe let someone else pick the singles.Word and Love should have been released along time ago.

Prince is close to 50 years old. The general music audience doesn't buy millions of records from cats who are as old as their parents.

They'll go see him.

But his albums aren't gonna generate a lot of heat for very long.

That day passed nearly 20 years ago.

Ive heard a few songs off 3121 on radio that being Black Sweat, Love, Get On The Boat & Fury. I wouldnt really say its dead if he ever does a tour that can always help bring the album back, and who knows he could release another single around that time 2?

Madonna's Like A Virgin, released in her 20's, sold more than her last several releases in her 40's, combined.

And 48 IS almost 50.

Madonna and even MJ can manage to still sell millions of albums, so it's more to it than just age. They may not sell like they used to in the '80's, but they are selling way more than Prince.

Prince's name-change forever diminished his viability as a multi-platinum star.

In any event, both Madonna's and MJ's sales have fallen off precipitously since their respective heydays.

That doesn't mean that Prince, MJ or Madonna aren't still successful.

It just means they're not as successful.

Many of us children of the 70's and 80's liked the Beatles, Stones, Temptations, etc. but we weren't rushing out to buy their new releases.

Same with Prince, Madonna and MJ.

Time marches on, is my only point.

I agree nampeace, but it's just wierd how MJ can overcome child molestation charges, skin bleaching, multiple plastic surgeries and other wierdness, but still manage to sell millions of albums.

Prince changed his hame to a wierd symbol during a battle with WB and wrote "slave" on the side of his face and it seems like he will never be able to live that down.

You're right, but MJ and Prince are worlds apart musically.

And how many units of his new stuff has he actually moved vs. Prince? Probably a lot more, but I bet his sales have declined at the same rates Prince's have.

I swear, it's just not fair for our man...

Madonna is acting liking she's still 20 -- that's why she sells.
MJ is full of controversy and everything -- that's why he sells.

Prince is an all-around musician if there every was one -- too bad he isn't full of personality in this day and age...

do you buy Prince cd's because you want them to be successful, or because you like his music?
That was part of Prince's fight against the big records companies. Besides wanting to own his masters, he wanted to be able to release a record anytime he wanted to. The record companies didn't want him competing against himself with multiple releases.
If you buy Prince cd's because you like his music, another cd release would be great, but if youre worried about their sales, the amount the cd sells really doesn't have any effect on your life. stop worrying

I think the reason MJ tends to sell more is because he always goes after whoever the hot producer of the time is, (same as Madonna) and he puts the hottest rapper or whatever on his tracks. If MJ was putting out his own homegrown stuff without outside help (like P) he wouldn't be selling like he does (not in the USA anyway).

Not to mention a lot of older fans tend to get his stuff because they choose to think back to little kid MJ dancing around with his brothers and shit and ignore the foolishness he got himself into as a grown man. They can't do that with P. He was a full grown man when he dropped his first album and he was strange even way back then.

The Isleys sold out. They rely on R.Kelly to give them "hits".Do we really want Prince to become that desperate and do the same?

ok, of these 3 artists, tell me who has the most credibility:

1. Michael Jackson
2. Madonna
3. Prince

anyone? bueller? anyone?

why argue about album sales? Think about credibility. Any thinking person could tell you that only one of these artists is currently making art, or is worthy of the title "artist".

and don't tell me about that crucifixion in concert bullshit! Will someone please just put a bullet in her head

Sales these days are about being a sex symbol, bling bling rapper or influencing one of the 2.

Madonna is on top these days because she got a whole new audience of kiddies because the kiddies heard she influenced Britney, X-tina and all of the popular singers they are into today.

Don't act like you die-hard P fans didn't go try and "discover" the people who Prince claimed influenced him as a result of him saying it.

Point being..who has Prince influenced that is a dynamite seller? He may have influenced some talent musicians and everything, but big time sellers, no.

Further suppose, there is some mega seller "popular" artist of current times, talking about how Prince influenced them all the time, and then Prince does a duet with them. (I smell Prince and Beyonce duet on next album perhaps as a lead single...)

I imagine if Britney Spears or Justin Timberlake start bragging in TONS (not just 1 or 2) interviews about how Prince influnced them hardcore, his sales will increase as a result. Then do a duet with that artist on the next album. (IE - Britney and Madonna - Me Against The Music.)

I can't count the number of times Britney has labeled Madonna as an influence, and I'm not even a fan of either of them.
