You're statement isn't too far from the truth.

I'm still digging 3121, but I'm never opposed to new Prince music.

I swear, it's just not fair for our man...

Madonna is acting liking she's still 20 -- that's why she sells.
MJ is full of controversy and everything -- that's why he sells.

Prince is an all-around musician if there every was one -- too bad he isn't full of personality in this day and age...

A 48 year old woman acting like she's still 20 freaks out young kids, in an "I-want-to-vomit" kind of way. I know because I've heard young kids talk about Madonna that way. I think Madonna sells because she knows her audience. And it ain't young kids, BTW.

I would like to take this opportunity to point out an often overlooked fact:

Prince has ALMOST NEVER monster album sales! Look at any year, besides 1984, and see what kinds of people routinely outsold Prince.

Think about it, Purple Rain, Batman, and Diamonds and Pearls are Prince's biggest selling albums. Each one has a massive amount of hype behind them. Meanwhile, so called "classics" like Parade, Sign "O" The Times, Dirty Mind, and Lovesexy all had relatively poor sales.
Prince hits BIG saleswise every now and again, but for the most part is sales are due to his hardcore fanbase.

True. I have never quite understood this fact.

That's basically one of the points I was trying 2 make about his Purple Rain cd selling so much and WHY.

If Prince dropped $127,000 in the right lap, u would hear 3121 everyday on every radio dial for at least a month.

Indeed.

But what did he get instead?

Ridicule for his name-change for the balance of the 90's.

To answer the question, no he still has songs on this CD that can be huge if Prince and Universal can work together to push the damn thing. The song that can change thing IMHO is Love. There's no reason why this song can't get any airplay but it's going to take some serious pushing from all sides to get it to radio. I really hope Prince and Universal don't give up on 3121.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I think the singles with the best potential have already been released as singles/videos: "Black Sweat" and "Fury." I don't hear "Love" becoming a big hit.

"Black Sweat" was the best single in the bunch and it stalled.

Yeah, really. Are you guys forgetting that Prince has never been a big album seller? He's had a lot of hit singles, since he's almost routinely released an album every damn year, but the guy never really moves a lot of units.

Even Purple Rain has been outsold by a lot of other bigger albums.

Why did 3121 not sell? Easy. Prince does whatever he wants, whenever he wants, and doesn't play by the necessary rules.

He should've released a catchy uptempo song as the lead single, but he's Prince, so he released a ballad without a hook.

He should've gone on all the talk shows, including Oprah, before and immediately after the album's release, but he's Prince, so he soon disappeared after the album hit shelves.

He should've had a tour announced to coincide with the album's release date, but he's Prince, so nothing at all materialized.

The guy just makes it very difficult sometimes for the public to understand (and thus) buy him.

Actually, I was quite confused about the release of Fury. I don't remember it as a download at the Club, don't remember it in the record stores.

The parents buy Bruce Springsteen. Some of the kids might buy Springsteen records, but it's absolutely foolish to suggest that kids are buying Springsteen like they're buying Coldplay, The Game or Beyonce. That's simply misinformed.

Which is another systemic problem he has.

His releases are often poorly coordinated and marketed.

That's not true at ALL, vain. The fact you don't like the music these day's don't mean it ain't good.

Prince's modern output doesn't match up to that of Beck or Me'Shell. Van Hunt is making very good stuff. In the 00's, Lewis Taylor, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Amel Larreiux, jazzanova, Zero 7, D'Angelo, bebel gilberto, Bilal, Ledisi, Gnarls Barkley, Dwele, Koop, Les Nubians, Madlib, and Steely-frickin'-Dan, among others I forgot or don't know, have made their share of good songs or albums.

It might not suit your taste. You might not feel it. That's all well and good.

But you cannot possibly say no one's making good music and I'd ask you to reconsider that last statement. You can't back it up.

Well, you may consider that good music but I certainly don't. It's either too slow, too dull, or too boring. And the fact that funk practically doesn't exist anymore is not a shame, it's a damn crime.

What you're really saying is that you dig the funk, and it's not around anymore.

Which I'd agree with for the most part.

But the world beyond funk is populated with tons of good music.

Well, the reduction in your blood pressure by the absence of pork in your music diet is likely offset by acute depression that you are now eating veggie greens.

Madonna and even MJ can manage to still sell millions of albums, so it's more to it than just age. They may not sell like they used to in the '80's, but they are selling way more than Prince.

Prince's name-change forever diminished his viability as a multi-platinum star.

In any event, both Madonna's and MJ's sales have fallen off precipitously since their respective heydays.

That doesn't mean that Prince, MJ or Madonna aren't still successful.

It just means they're not as successful.

Many of us children of the 70's and 80's liked the Beatles, Stones, Temptations, etc. but we weren't rushing out to buy their new releases.

Same with Prince, Madonna and MJ.

Time marches on, is my only point.

Funnily enough, I was talking about this today - Why am I not as enthusiastic about a new prince album anymore etc.....

Point:
1 - I have more important priorities in life now

2 - I cant funk like I used too

3 - Im 48 which is apparently nearly 50 ( lol Just Kidding I am 37 which is nearly 40!! lol )

If you want to know the truth, Prince is in the research stages of his new CD right now.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.
