I think all of Prince's live performances are starting to make a difference.
Also, more and more "popular" singers, performers and musicians are giving him props--they're fans are likely to pay some attention to this. Finally, Prince is reaching the age where it is just "polite" to not diss him, like Bowie did or the Rolling Stones. There's a point in alot of their career where you kind of give them props instead of hating on them. It happenned to Jerry Lee Lewis.

There's a point in alot of their career where you kind of give them props instead of hating on them. It happenned to Jerry Lee Lewis. those are some good points there. plus he's not being so weird like he was 10-20 years ago. people are realizing how great those albums he did in the 80's were and they are giving respect. i will say it is a little bit easier to say that i'm a prince fan than it was in 1996. i was laughed at for most of the 90's because of that name change. it still happens today but not as much and they respect prince and that's part of the battle right there. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I teach high school, and I recently had a discussion with a group of students because one of them called me "pathetic" for going to see Prince. I pointed out that he should be amazed that I can still see my artist 20 years later, since his 'one hit wonder' probably won't be around 20 DAYS from now... THEN I explained that their artists act like PUNKS in the presence of Prince because they recognize and respect.
BUT, when "Black Sweat" came out, the kids always wanted me to play it for them. I guess they began to see... Actually, though, when I was getting all excited to go to GMA recently, I was told by a "friend" and a coworker (who never met each other) that I need to grow up and get over this "thing" I have with Prince. My so-called friend told me I am a "grown-ass woman" and it's okay to like his music, but the fan thing was played out. I asked him if he gave the same speech to "grown-ass men" (or women) who are sports fans. Lynn "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

Whether it's Prince, or watching cartoons or reading comic books... to hell with doing what you're "supposed to be doing".

I don't give a shit if it's cool to like Prince or not. I like what I like and most people who would deem it uncool are people who don't know the first goddamn thing about him.

Most of my friends think it's great that im a fan. But some people think he's all gay and crap and stuff, altho most of those people are very involved with the scene, so it's ok. Doesnt really make a difference to me either way, altho i do hate it when little scene kids, who don't much about anythin, start talkin SHIT! I think it's always been that way...
Purple Rain and 1999 eras it was cool.... ...Diamonds and Pearls it was cool... ....Come era it wasn't, NPS it wasn't, Rave it wasn't.... ...Musicology it was, 3121 it was... It just seems to go in cycles with the general public...

i've never paid attention to what anyone else thinks about him. i adore him and his music. everyone around me knows i'm a fan and they get over it. i have had some co-workers look at me weird and tell me i'm crazy for being a fan, but i don't care. My kitty wants to play...

I don't want 2 B rude but there is NO other way 2 put it!
Who gives a fuck what any1 else thinks! I had crap heaped on me 4 years, by people with very little grey matter, because I love and admire the little purple man and other more obscure artists. But hey! Unlike them I respect the fact that they can only enjoy mindless drivel which gets pumped out onto the airwaves. RESPECT 2 ALL! (If they deserve it! )

I think it's slowly becoming cool to be a Prince fan again - especially since Musicology came out. Back when I was a padawan Prince fan (c.1998) it was totally uncool to like Prince, to the point where you just didn't mention it to people. These days I find I get a far better response when I tell people I’m a Prince fan. People are generally intrigued and interested ... "Prince? Yeah, he's cool. My fav song is When Doves Cry/LRC/Kiss" (etc.)
However, when they see how much Prince shite I have collected over the years (CDs, LPs, posters, memorabillia etc.) they're like "" Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com
