EvilWhiteMale said: I just think the group would be more interesting and get more attention if Tommy was the drummer. You can't deny the attention part. Besides having a rock and roll drummer would be a nice change from all these boring R&B/funk drummers. Who, besides Prince fans actually know who Blackwell is? No one.
You seem to be equating popularity as a drummer with being a good drummer. Session work and live gigs for various artists doesn't exactly make said drummer popular among pop fans, and that's what Blackwell was. So what? It has no bearing on whether or not a FUNK/R&B drummer (or any other genre you want to put in there that you don't like) is a good drummer or not. Big friggin' deal, Tommy Lee is popular. It has more to do with the skin flick that he and his ex-wife made where his schlong is supposedly legendary, his legal battles with his ex-wife where he allegedly beat her, and his foray into hip hop, and other non-metal music that Motley Crue is not known for. It says nothing about him as a drummer. Tommy plays the shit out of drums, so what's the problem?
So does Animal from The Muppets. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Tommy is a great drummer, Blackwell is as well. The whole thing was a joke, so lighten the fuck up. What's next, saying my daddy could beat your daddy up? Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Who cares. Tommy Lee is nothing special as a drummer.
