Oscar-winner Tom Hanks is up for the title role in director Steven Spielberg's biopic of Abraham Lincoln. The DreamWorks project is scripted by John Logan and based on historian Doris Kearns Goodwin's forthcoming tome. Lincoln will reportedly focus on the 16th President's Civil War tenure and, presumably, his assassination.

A project like this will need a major star in order for people to go see it. (Otherwise, why not stay at home and watch a TV movie about The Great Emancipator?) Hanks, a Spielberg veteran and pal, projects the integrity, leadership, and folksiness that Lincoln had. Plus, Hanks is a history buff so he'd be interested in this project.

Here's perhaps the most compelling and least known reason why Hanks might want to make this film. Hanks is a distant relative of Nancy Hanks ... the mother of Abe Lincoln! You could say that Hanks was born to play this role (even if some would prefer to see the more physically similar Liam Neeson portray Honest Abe.) At 6'1", Hanks will need to wear lifts to suggest Lincoln's 6'4" frame.

Steven Spielberg has reportedly long wanted to make a film about Lincoln.

i rather see tom play a rapist.

i don't think prince would care. if he does, he probably fight behind the scenes or donate a song since he will clam up.

Upon recognizing the bearded statesman, Prince would launch into a blistering tirade of insults that would aggravate the great president. Prince would then call on the "fams" to do his bidding, at which point the "fams" would draw and quarter the great emancipator according to the will of their misguided leader.

I can't really seem to get into Avalanche. I don't know whether it is due to all this Abe Lincoln shenanigans, or the non-memorable (for me anyway) melody. It is the one track I am always closest to skipping. I am still giving it a chance to see if it grows on me though.

Avalanche is a bold piece full of profound truths that the "snowflakes" are not ready or willing to deal with. The first step to curing an illness is the admission that there is a problem.

The civil war was fought to preserve the union (not free the slaves). Lincoln believed in white supremacy (prefering whites to rule over Blacks). Do the research and seek deeper than the lies often told and accepted but never challenged. Tough pill to swallow but true.
