Red Headed Stepchild LYRICS

Anyone have these?

I'd like to be the judge and jury for the rumoured meaning.

I think it's about how she felt jaded from society for being different?....maybe?.....The title kind of explains what the song is about. I don't hav any specifics 4 u though. I know One line is I'm not even sure what my last name is. Maybe it involves a bit of an identity crisi?....maybe?....

It's Redhead Stepchild isn't it? Not Redheaded Stepchild. Could change the meaning completely...

My impression was that she was dumping someone so soundly that they would feel as overlooked as a "redhead stepchild."

I'd also like to see the lyrics.

GangstaFam, I asked a friend if he'd heard of the song. He said no. Not the definative answer to "is it a cover?" lol but I'm having trouble finding out as well.

I really liked it live on GMA. I do know how different it can sound on the official release, but if it's even 1/10th as good as the performance it will be good.

IMO, its called "Readheaded Stepchild."

It has nothing to do with Tamar. Once again, IMO.

Being Prince wrote the lyrics and usually he writes about his personal world, its about Prince for the last 10 years feeling like a "Readheaded Stepchild" as a Jehovas Witness.

He feels like an outcast within the religion and an outcast because he is in the religion. Either way, he is a misfit.

It's not. Not only does she not sing that on GMA, but the album tracklist has been known for sometime:

01- Closer 2 My Heart
02- Milk & Honey
03- Can't Keep Living Alone
04- Holla & Shout
05- Kept Woman
06- Holy Ground
07- Beautiful, Loved & Blessed
08- Redhead Stepchild
09- All I Want Is U
10- First Love
11- Sunday In The Park
12- Beautiful, Loved & Blessed (Reprise)

yikes....
isn't the first line something like "I think I'm not in love anymore" ??? and I thought this was a Prince song from a few years back that never saw the light of day?? maybe I'm just imagining things....
I got the impression the song was about feeling like your being ignored by your significant other. but I'm just guessing.
"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok

I've been doing a little research on AllMusic Guide & I don't think it's a cover...

First I looked up "Redheaded Stepchild" and got about 5 results http://www.allmusic.com/c...17:1270704

all from within the last 10 years...so I doubt a cover would be that recent. Plus one is electronic and the other one is the Golden Smog version which is not it.

Then I did a search for "Redhead Stepchild" and it only shows up one place:
http://www.allmusic.com/c...17:2266368

Tamar's album! eek But no info on who the composer is.

RE the title: it has to do with feeling like an outcast/being treated badly.

In a few weeks I'll hopefuly have a copy of the Nokia version so I can try to transcribe the lyrics.... wink
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

No, IIRC, that was Rock Steady (Aretha cover) and Partyman.

Exactly. When I heard it at Nokia my first thought was that it was a Led Zepplin cover, but I'm starting to think it's a Prince original.

Go Princey-he's still a bad man. cool
