She has MTV and radio support, which Prince does not.

Its funny how we have this discussion every week, this week its Rihanna. HOw about this "alot of people sell more records than Prince" and alot of people dont, doesnt make anyone better or worse. Rihanna is on tv all day, mtv, bet, vh1, cruise commercials during the Mets games. Basically if U jam someone down peoples throats 24/7 they will buy it because they wanna have what everyone else has. actually, looking at those lists every week makes me realise how LITTLE
records most artists are selling. do these lists include album downloads from official online stores? i'm still a bit of a neanderthal when it comes to itunes and mp3 stores and such. but comparing these lists to those of before Napster, you can really be sure that -illegal- filesharing cuts into the album sales. still, a good album will sell itself, i guess. but for instance, i have got at least 4 copies of albums from friends this year. copies of cd's that i would have probably bought in the store otherwise. but having a copy, i don't really feel the need to go out and buy the real thing if it's not an instant classic. however, i do pick up these kind of albums once they hit the bargain baskets for like 7 dollars or something. anywho. all this mumbling of mine is totally regardless of how much or how little prince is selling, it's just an observation on total sales for all artists. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

In addition, let’s not forget that music is global. 3121 has done very well in Europe. In fact, both Te Amo Corazon and Black Sweat have gone top 40 in many countries across the continent. Maybe that’s why he’s not losing too much sleep over U.S. sales. Internationally, he’s still selling albums and pumping out commercial hits.

IstenSzek said: actually, looking at those lists every week makes me realise how LITTLE
records most artists are selling. anywho. all this mumbling of mine is totally regardless of how much or how little prince is selling, it's just an observation on total sales for all artists. I agree, I notice week to week, the No 1 is selling in the low 6 figures and number 2 is always about 80k, the Top 10 are 50k or more, but by No 15 u r under 50k and under 30k at #25 and under 10k by no 100. It must at this rate take an album a long time to sell a million. Some of those albums could hang around the lower reaches of the charts for several weeks and fail to get 6 figure sales. Unless u have a smash getting gold must be impossible. I mean its amazing how many albums have only sold about 50-200,000 copies and have been there for what seems like forever. Seriously we can't knock Prince, getting an album to gold seems like hard work here. 17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince

in the bigger scheme of things (promotion, touring, videos)...which one is more disappointing?
135 MADONNA CONFESSIONS ON A DANCE FLOOR 6,750 -10 7,512 1,496,890 152 PRINCE 3121 5,993 -27 8,168 457,543 you look better on your facebook page than you do in person

will any of these young artist be even thought of when their 50? Will they put out more then 6 albums. I'd say NO Probably not. I’ll second that!

But she had more promotion for her CD than Prince (or so it seems to me). I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Dang Nick Lachey - 388,xxx WOW .... surprised
The list is shocking...I wish we there was a list from 2004 without the concert give aways so we could see the numbers of Musicology and compare. This sucks ... but he hasn't given up and he is still singing from the album. Back in the day promotion for a new album would be in the works. OH YEAH Madonna sucks ... JMO Prime aka The Kid

The vast number of albums that aren't even going
platinum is surprising. Those who do sell well are either the folks we see on TV 24/7 or they are country artists If you will, so will I

What is surprising to me is that musicology ( without concert sales )
sold more than 3121...( more than 900000 copies ). Perhaps because of the success of the big musicology tour ?! What do you think?

Prince must be converting people...
When you break it down, all of the Prince fans bought their CD during the first week of release...that was about 200,000. Casual fans/non fans (yes, you are in the same boat) are slowly coming around. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Hey I live in India so don't have much experience about your Charts, but is there any chance of the sales increasing after his performance / award at BET ?
