At this point in time, I would like Prince to write and produce a great rock album (no horns alowed) all by himself.

All these cats saying Prince is alright is absurd! Even if U don't care for his personality, music or whatever.....He deserves repect! Would U say Ali was just alright...And on another note just because U work in the Biz doesn't make U any more knowledgeable about who can sing rings around who! There's no way it can be said that Maxwell can sing circles around Prince, NOR can it be said in reverse.

They R different... both have their own strengths, and both R strong in falsetto. Prince does certainly have a wider range vocally, but that's all that can be said.

That all being said, Maxwell has a wonderful voice, and one of Blaqueknight's points was that we need 2 be hearing more of it. Max needs 2 get himself together and gig again.

Maxwell ain't singin no rings around Prince in this lifetime or any other. I don't like it when people make these kind of comments, not because I am a P fan, but because it makes me wonder " Are you and I listening to the same thing?" If so what are you hearing right now that makes you say this? I'm a singer and I can tell you Prince is a very underated singer perhaps because he does so many other things. At any rate, ain't too many new jacks can hang with P when it comes to singing because he's got the ultimate what us singers call "know how". A lot of people have great voices but only a few really know how to sing. Don't get me wrong Maxwell is talented but imagine him trying to sing all the different styles P does. Imagine him singing Endophine Machine and TMBGITW on the same album. Imagine him trying to sing Fury and Te Amo Corazon. I can't even begin to fathom him attempting "When Doves Cry." P can sing so many different styles cause he "knows how to sing."

This is an interesting thing. I've always regarded Prince as an outstanding vocalist, but I've never felt that he had a great voice.

I hear a little Prince influence in people like Maxwell and D'Angelo but I don't care for their music at all. Some artists even admit to being influenced by Prince. Hell, too bad he didn't influence them to be hard and funky instead of them just being influenced by Prince's ballads.

That takes a hell of a lot of effort.

Naw Prince's voice isn't the greatest even though he has a mean falsetto. Then again Billie Holiday wasn't working with the best instruments either but she was a hell of a singer. It's like saying you might not be the tallest basketball player on the court, but you can still be a great basketball player. I just don't think you can compare some of these new jacks with nice voices to a great vocalist like P.
