Bootlegs - are these songs really Prince or are they fakes / mistaken? I have been having some trouble figuring out about the following list of socalled prince songs or instrumentals. Do any of you know whether they are Prince or somebody else?
We Gon Make It Funky Loving You Moments Come Outside And Play Jammin' For You Climax Wet Dream Cousin Electric Man Tender Surrender Volkswagon Blues And did he perform: Whole Lotta Love Honky Tonk Women Rollercoaster Did you hear or hear of any of these?

Come outside and play - recorded around 1990, similar to another outtake called Positive Place.
Talks about a girl being the best kisser in LA. Climax - recorded in early 80's (83?), purely instrumental raw synths and a recurrent drum beat with a bass. Addictive. Wet Dream Cousin - recorded early 80's again - also instrumental and 'raw'. Similar in sound to Wet Dream on Vanity 6's album, hence the name. Also similar to Wonderful Ass in parts. Electric Man - dont know but ive heard its a live outtake. Whole lotta lowe - ONA Live CD (2002) Rollercoaster - ONA Live CD(2002) Honky Tonk Woman - i have heard this - a live recording from around 1995. All the others i am not aware of.

Here's some starter info
We Gon' Make It Funky - Song on which Prince jammed at the Celebration, 2001. Performed by Maceo Parker. Video and audio download released through NPGMC Come Outside And Play- unreleased from 1990 a.k.a as 'Play' Wet Dream Cousin - unreleased outtake Electric Man - blues ad lib performed on the 1986 Parade / Hit 'N Run tours (segue out of 'Head') and 1990 Nude tour (segue out of 'The Question Of U'). Tender Surrender - Steve Vai song. Some dispute as to whether Prince was covering this song or improvising closely to it, but Steve Vai thinks it was 'Tender Surrender' Volkswagon Blues: improvised blues based on BB King song performed live by Prince once. Whole Lotta Love - cover performed mostly live on the 'One Nite Alone ... Live! tour, 2002 Honky Tonk Women - yes. Recorded for 'The Undertaker' CD and released officially on 'The Undertaker' video. Rollercoaster - 'Love Rollercoaster' - cover of the Ohio Players song mostly performed on the 'One Nite Alone ... Live!' tour 2002 . [Edited 6/22/06 14:24pm] ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. This place is truly a ressource
And you guys are amazing, thanks That leaves: Loving You (which sounds like Prince, but maybe not) Moments (I've seen this referred to on the org, but it might not be authentic) Jammin' For You (probably not him then, not his kind of title, anyway) FreakerFantastic, about Electric Man: I like it very much, even though it is just an intro and not a whole song in and of itself. Bluesy with a whipping beat: "Some people call me Prince - but you can call me Electric Man All the fellas call me ugly - but the ladies call me Electric Man" Thats the spirit...

Moments (I've seen this referred to on the org, but it might not be authentic) Jammin' For You (probably not him then, not his kind of title, anyway) "Loving You" = FAKE "Moments" = "Minneapolis #2" by Lisa Coleman, once considered for inclusion on "Dream Factory" and/or "Crystal Ball"... ("Minneapolis #1" by Lisa Coleman being "Visions" on "Dream Factory"...) "Jammin' For You" = FAKE Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O

Nope. Yes to the information re: the band lineup, but nope that is not their song. They did, however, do a song titled "You" which was retitled "U" and given to Paula Abdul in 1991.

I like You as well. Especially the original rock version.
Climax does sound Princey to me. Addictive is the word for me too. Visions and Moments are both performed by Lisa Coleman then - but are they also composed by her? Has prince not got his hands on them somehow?

Yes, they were composed by her with no Prince input other than that he liked the pieces and wanted to use them... Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O

It's "Villanova Junction" (Jimi Hendrix) Neversin. Ah yes, what a saga - Vai subconsciously rips off part of Hendrix's "Villanova Junction" in "Tender Surrender" - Prince covers the Hendrix tune live - some kid who's never heard "Villanova Junction" ( the original ) but has heard "Tender Surrender" ( the rip off ) hears the bootleg, assumes it is "Tender Surrender" and labels it as such - thousands and thousands of mp3 copies of the incorrectly named track spread via cyberspace - becomes accepted "wisdom" that Prince has covered the Vai tune - even Vai himself, forgetting the Hendrix tune, assumes Prince has covered his song - eventually an interviewer suggests to Vai that Prince was probably covering "Villanova Junction" - Vai recalls the tune, agrees, and admits he probably subconsciously ripped off "Villanova Junction" when writing "Tender Surrender" - Still enough copies incorrectly labelled "Tender Surrender" sitting on hard drives and CDs all over the world to ensure that the myth will never die. Actually, I'll cut. paste & save this post for when it comes up again next month. "Don't hate me cos I'm beautiful"
