I'm surprised no-ones taken this thread seriously! As soon as I heard Hollaback Girl drum beat I thought of Housequake. Its unbelievable. Then I found out it was produced by Pharrell Williams/Neptunes, and obviously Gwen Stafani is also a Prince fan, so its no surprise really.

Plus I don't think its a coincidence Prince is also playing Hollaback Girl live, he'll hear it too, doesn't he play it as part of a Housequake sequence?

Either way, yes, I think the drums in this song directly reference/rip-off the drums to Housequake.

I don't think the song is a rip-off but the drums are practically identical.

The Prince influence is obvious.

Both great songs in my estimations...

BlackBuddy, 1st time i heard that song i thought the EXACT same thing - and have done every time since then - don't let the wankers sway you - you got it right - he never sung about bananas (in THAT song) but the beat is plainly a total rip-off of Housequake - and any1 who can't hear it is a fool!... cool

B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

But yeah, the drum beat is almost exact. I do think it's an homage, at least musically.

or

that beat is common in over 100 different songs,
i doubt they were all influenced by house quake
though Prince would love to believe that...

BUT!!!! because drum patterns are safe from copyright infringement
every one copies from each other...

EXAMPLE
ever since Grindin...
The pattern has been duplicated on over 300 songs ...

Some people on here are retarded. I did't say anything about the lyrical content or the melody. I was specifically referring to the drums. Maybe I should of said that, but drums in any song are what you can't help but hear

Maybe I'll listen to Hollaback Girl to see what all the fuss is about. I don't reckon I've ever heard it all the way through. As it turns out, I've nearly injured myself every time it's come on the radio by running, leaping, tucking and rolling to turn it off. I'm not in the best shape, but I can do some awesome Matrix moves when I need to, and ditching Hollaback Girl would be considered a need-to basis (as well as My Humps). Weird thing at my house, and at work for that matter... the remote is almost always laying on top of the stereo. I could probably save a lot of bumps and bruises by just keeping the remote handy. shrug
