"cat, we need u 2 rap" is a cool line. as was ev'rything prince wrote then. no irony, it all sounds good to me from back then.
how about on "new power generation"- "your old fashioned music/your old ideas". clunky, clumsy stuff! like the song itself. tellya what always bothered me- the extended reference to lighting up a spliff and taking a hit, in "now". what a sell-out, fashionable shit. goes entirely against what p has always said about drugs, and is embarrassing in an "old gramps trying to be down with the kids" way. plus the way it's rapped in this "jamaican" voice, as if to distance prince himself from the lyrics. it's a weak, weak joke (though i like the song quite a lot).

I don't have problems with almost all of the lyrics mentioned so far. I think that the words 'Holocaust aside' do not necessary trivialise the Holocaust. I prefer to take the 'aside' to mean 'as well as', or 'also'. It's ambiguous.
How about these for some awful lyrics: "when we make love it's like surgery (SURGERY!)" or "like animals just want to breed, ..." .. or worse still, some of the dialogue from The Passion: "give me your hand" "which one?" (AURGH!) (although I've got to say I love the entire Scandalous Sex Suite 9 track CD Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

"Holocaust aside, many lived and died...But when all truth is told/Would u rather b dead or b sold?" I think when you want to talk about Jews you can NOT say "Holocaust aside..". That´s impossible!!! And the other Jew lyrics in TRC, it really made me reconsider the fact that I´m a Prince fan. When I listen to TRC I just pretend I don´t hear that. I always thought Holocaust aside, meant that people need to understand that other awful things have happened to people besides the holocaust. the holocaust may be the best example of atrocities to humankind, but it also does have the habit of making people forget other tragedies, such as slavery, or the japanese internment camps and such. the other lyrics were just about the racial conflict between some jews and blacks. apparently it was on Prince's mind at the time. it was on MJ's mind at a time as well, and he got in big trouble for talking about the issue. I feel that he makes so many positve references in that album (the Martin Luther King quote, come together as one etc.) that it doesn't bother me. I know thateveryone will disagree with me, but I think Dolphin had some of the corniest lyrics ever. really. BY THE POWER INVESTED IN ME BY GOD ALL NEGATIVITY BOWS

I adore 'Lovesexy,' I think Prince was really taking a lot of risks with that album (and some of them paid off) but "Glam Slam, thank U ma'am"...has got to be the laziest lyrics he has ever coined. "My soul belongs to God, but my body belongs to Prince"

I've always hated "Slow Love." I know it's from an album considered one of his greatest, but everything about that song grates my nerves.
"Young is the night. It feels so right." "You can see through race car drivers." Wtf?

A lot of these lyrics you guys are slamming I think have great interpretative value ... but to each her own.
Anyway: I see no redeeming value in: "U can watch a tape of this mellow afterparty Macy and Common were there" Who gives a fuck if M and C were there? And the purpose of namedropping is? Obviously to make me hit fastforward.I don't give a shit.

some of these bad lyrics some of you are quoting, either youre getting them wrong in the 1st place or you dont necessarily understand what they mean so youre labelling them bad,e.g
"It's just a motherfucking piece of pie" From Don't Play Me,the line actually is: "It aint no motherfucking piece of pie" and it follows on fine from the line "the choice we make,it aint no piece of cake..." (isnt it from the song The Truth anyway, not dont play me) and in slow love, the line: "You can see through race car drivers." , doesnt it mean the woman can see through guys whose main attraction is their celebrity or money,it doesnt mean shes got x-ray vision Check out Chocadelica , updated with Lotusflow3r and MPLSound album lyrics April 2nd 2009 :

His constant mentioning of "Saturday Morning Cartoon" in The War always struck me as a bit awkward. The song is great overall, but too many words and thoughts meander in the song before the guitar comes in.
Worst yet, the rap/reggae-like verse in "The Sun, Moon, & Stars". The song is good, but that verse was attrocious. Peace,

Most of U guys are getting this ALL WRONG. These lyrics U r mentioning are supposed to be stupid or silly or funny (although I am the first to admit that I still don't have the emotional strength to sit through the whole of "The Wedding Feast"- congrats to those of U who do... great sense of humour that Prince).
Songs like "Tick-bang" are crude but funny. I find Prince's worst lyrics are on...was it "ManOwar"? where he says he couldn't sleep with her after sleeping with someone else as "I'd still smell like the last time"..Whatever the song title is, it's not sexy, it's just crude and shows Prince at his most unsubtle."I can put my load in the dryer/ same height, weight and body fluid"... hmmm, lovely images Prince, keep 'em coming...any girl would fall in love with lyrics like those... How about..hmmm "I wanna do ya Suzannah Hoffs, until my manhood drops off"?? Nah, ok. I have to say though, Prince never says "throw your hands in the air like ya just don't care"...thank fuck for savoir faire, eh.
