Maybe Prince needs a fresh start with a new genre?

I have often wondered if Prince would do anything Sci-Fi? Meaning, cutting himself off from the 'love for sex vs. love for God' thing (which I love don't get me wrong) and seeing how he would handle waging psychedelic warfare on the world of popular music (kind of like Jimi Hendrix's 'Are You Experienced?'). Imagine songs about a world of Prince's creation told with guitar solos like the ones he plays during the live versions of 'Joy In Repetition.' Could he do it, and if he did what kind of world would he create?

PFunkjazz, are you saying that I am on hard drugs, or that Prince would need hard drugs to take the direction that I am suggesting?

He should either pickup where Tito Puente left off, or dive fully into Neo-Christian-Sleeper-Soul.

Wow,that would be some Beautiful Experience. Ever gone to those Laser Shows with the Rock music? How come there never was Laser PRINCE??? Or something on the vibe of 3-D. And then he allows you some Hawaiian Punch with Natural Extasy and you Trip into THE JOY Fantastic. As Austin Powers says ...GROOOVY BABY!

The period from the 'Symbol' album, right through to the 'Emancipation' era, always struck me as being very sci-fi (pretty much "out there"), in a very kitsch, late-sixties kind of way.

Witness Prince's preoccupation with futuristic cities (the "7" video), laser beam sound effects aping Star Wars(like on the NPG album "Exodus", for example). Image-wise, the gold-plated "gun" microphone and the whole "Egyptian Connection" journey through the pyramids vibe with ex-wife Mayte were indications that Prince was taking his "Godfather meets Barbarella" premise a stage further. Also, the robotic "interactive" voice announcing the beginning of tracks on 'The Gold Experience', as well as the "endorphin machine" that featured onstage during the Ultimate Live Experience tour were indications that Prince was on something of a "cosmic" tip during that particular period.
