I wouldn't blame it entirely on your typing; the same thing happened to me, except the clock said 12:01. eek It sold out in less than a minute. mad

I've got two concerts in the next two days anyway. Going to a third tonight would have killed me.

very true. if folks had to pay to see 'im, then i'd probably side with the "poor new yorkers" remark.

Are you kidding? Nothing is ever free! If you live in NYC and went to the park, there is a strong chance you had to pay a fare or use your gas to get there (which most people have to pay for) and in my opinion time IS money, I can't image how early they must have had to get to the park to stand around some more before their 15 minute concert.

Also, many people paid b/c they traveled from out of town and still had to do what I noted above. And it super-sux if those people weren't able to get somewhere and get online for the Butter tix.

while i agree that it would have been thoughtful of prince to play for a little bit more, it really isn't his fault that people jump through hoops for him. should he be more appreciative of it? absolutely. do fans know how he is and should they stop catering to his ego? absolutely.

nobody had a gun to anyone's head and most folks who would make the drive or fly to see this promo performance HAVE to be familiar with prince's poor attitude. can anyone really be surprised?

my suggestion is if you were there just enjoy the fact that you saw a cool 15 minute performance. then move on. it ain't all that important to get all busted out of shape. its not like you paid for a ticket and didn't get your money's worth. sorry but the whole time and gas thing...lame. it takes time and gas to do just about anything and, again, nobody forced anyone's hand.

if you're salty about this just keep it in mind next time he's doing something. sit it out and avoid the frustration.

new Yorkers on no, you knew what you getting which is what you paid - nothing. If there wasn't that prob, we prolly would have had another song or two.

no, he wouldn't have. its fine that he did the minimum requirement, nobody should expect more. but let's just stop with the excuses. its not because of a sound check problem. its not because of an ordinace issue. its not because of anything outside of prince just didn't wanna do a free show.

perhaps he wanted to encourage more folks to pay the 121.03 ticket price for the butter show? who knows. but stop with the excuses. lol

Not sure it's that simple. GMA sponsors this event for the entire season and P has to perform within the time alloted. GMA paid the expenses for this gig, including insurance, park fees, overtime for park staff and security, taxes and who knows what else. Not to mention what they have to pay their own employees.

These free concert events always have sponsors. If performers at other events remain onstage for longer periods it's because the sponsor of the event has arranged for it.

Prince has his very own venue where he can hang out and perform as long as he wants and I've heard that he has performed at Paisley Park for little or nothing several times.

Let me say that myself as probably lots of other people do not watch GMA. I have probably seen it once in my life. Those morning shows make me feel more nausious in the morning than I already am.

With that said, why was this marketed as a "free concert" if there was no concert? If the people who attended aren't pissed, I know I was as a viewer waiting to view this "free concert." What a joke. I mean, I knew ABC wouldn't cover the whole "free concert" if there was a real concert, but you know it would pop up at the quake.

Give me some night train.

If Prince was thinking straight, he would have told GMA goodbye after the 2 1/2 song set and played for 3 hours for free to the crowd. That would have done him a lot of good.

Plus it rained, no it poured when Diana Ross did her show in Central Park back in 83. She had to do the show a day or two later. My family talked about that a lot when that happened.

Prince isn't on trial so wtf. Who would have a problem with someone complaining about a free "concert" after they arrive only to watch 2 songs? Easy to please I guess.

Because it's asinine to complain about the format of a morning TV show which Prince (or any other musical guest) has no conrol over. And as stated by various other posters no one made them attend regardless if they drove, flew walked, or hopped there on one leg.

anyone who went to this show should have known that they weren't going get a full concert as if it were Madison Square Garden. if they they thought they were, then they set their own asses up for disappointment not Prince. besides, GMA has been on for how long now? we should know how long the show is at this point so i have no sympathy for anyone who trippin over 2 or 3 songs from a show like this.

About 8 years ago Prince did the Today show here in NYC and the fans were able to watch the sound check of 2-3 songs and then Larry did 1 in a million and Prince sang some songs. On GMA there was a black sound barrier, so we could not see the band warming up. The sound was really bad, people were jumping the fence/barriers and the police were trying to do their crowd control thang. Prince looked so good in that suit.
Besides,I had a job interview to go to and I really would have been mad if he had jammed past 9:00am lol .

I have no voodoo doll, but you and all the other so-call Prince fans are pathetic to get so defensive over a guy claiming to perform a "concert" and come out and do 2 songs. You are fucking cheap as shit if you think cause its free, he can play 2 songs or 10 seconds and what the hell, you accept it.

This is exactly how the world and art is so fucked up. You pay for shit and you accept it. Lower your standards and you get what you reap. Art is all but gone, and you silly MFs put an underscore on it.

Just like one guy said "those were the old days, no one does shit for free" Course, it wasn't exactly said like that, but you can catch my drift.

If you want to say this the GMA was dissapointing then fine, but to go overboard and start talking about us lowering our standards and what's fucked up in the world today is straight up BULLSHIT. The way Prince performs at most concerts, shows, celebrations, afterparties, after after parties, tells me that he knows what we expect as fans and he makes sure that he deliveries 100% each time, so I don't know why you would use Prince as an example like that.

"The Beatles performed "Get Back" (along with other songs from the album) as part of the "Beatles Rooftop Performance" which took place on the roof of Apple

Obviously, that was free.

Just like one guy said "those were the old days, no one does shit for free" Course, it wasn't exactly said like that, but you can catch my drift.

what? eyepop remember i said i wasn't down so "i kept my a** at the crib." the concert @ Butter sounded worth it, that's what i would have gone to if i were in NYC. And before you go off on me again, Rockability, check the reviews for Butter.
But seriously, I'm gonna need you to work through your anger issues or at least don't direct them towards me.
Some of you people are really intense in this organization! chillout

Prince wasn't the one advertising it as a "concert"; that is/was Good Morning America's terminology so blame them for that. Anyone who went there expecting a 2 hour jam either didn't do their research or lives in denial because it was posted numerous places on this site, HQ, and NPGMC that it would probably be only 3-4 songs and they could have watched GMA any Friday for that last month or so to get an idea of what it would be like. As someone else posted, if people traveled from out of town and were expecting a full out show--that's on them. I knew it would only be 3-4 songs, and while of course I hoped that Prince would have said, Fuck it and played after GMA was off the air you can't really fault him, especially since I'm sure the City of New York & GMA have an agreement about using the park, etc.

Like PurpleCam said, "It was crackin in NYC." I had a great time--I got to see Prince, Sheila & Maceo jam up close. You should feel more sorry for us New Yorkers that we had to "compete" with a celebrity guest list to get tickets to the Butter show...that was a losing battle. confused
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
