i agree ... as as an anglo american ... it was an odd Damon Wayons performance .... i couldnt watch it ...you reminded me of the "african loin cloth" thing ... and even the speech impediment rap stuff was dumb .... at one point he made some reference to being drunk or intoxicated and .... i thought he looked it ! confused

Dude was definitely drunk. Probably nervous about his crappy material and had some drinks to loosen up. Got a little too loose, I think.

That is the best part of Prince, he always figures it before everyone!! He knows he has a fan base and they are the ones taping & looking for his live tv performances! So what does he do, perform different songs in every performance.

Now everyone else always plays their "single" a billion times

Prince knows anyone that had their fame, is not going to get major "mtv play".. which EVERYOTHER artist always thinks their "new" and in their 20's. They always try to do the exact same Promotion like you do when your 22 years old first time out of the gate, etc .

Damon Wayans is not a representative for black comedy at large. The Wayans brothers' brand of stand up comedy has almost always been very regressive and degrading. The only one who wasn't as much like that was Keenan. Shawn and Marlon had a lot of bafoonery on their show (tho it had a lot of funny moments). They also made fools of themselves when they hosted the MTV Awards a while back. They go too far sometimes. Some of the things they think are funny are very damaging to blacks image-wise. I mean look at Scary Movie, funny yes, but there were a lot of things that went too far. Then Damon did a movie called Marci X. Chris Rock said he turned that down because of how offensive it was. Not only that but, Damon wants to trademark the word "nigga" so he can use it as the name of his clothing line disbelief

I knew when it was announced that Damon was going to do a terrible job, and I can see I was right

There is NO excuse 4 his lame-ass opening, with the "Africans in the bush, with their loin cloths..." bullshit. It has nothing 2 do with "Black comedy"... it's straight up ignorant, and there R plenty of Black comedians, who R much more "representaive of Black comedy", who were probably embarrassed by his slurring dumb ass. I used 2 think Damon was the funniest Wayan. Not after last night. Something went wrong with that Brother... like he had a lobotomy or something.

My thoughts:

-Note 2 Beyonce's bass player: Swaying your instrument back and forth without actually touching the strings doesn't fool anybody.

-Note 2 Beyonce: U have a choice young lady, real live vocals or real hair. Xpecting veiwers 2 believe both r authentic was a bit taxing on our end.

-Damon Wayans hasn't been funny in years. Why is any1 surprised by this?

-Y'all need 2 leave Chaka alone. She's earned her right 2 wear suit jackets with a flare that make her butt look like U could project IMAX movies on2 it.

-I thought Prince was adorable during the tribute. Dude was lovin' it and it really came across. Very entertaining.

-"3121" was awesome. I think the vocal was kick a**. Tamar's voice was a nice addition 2 the song. I agree with folks saying it coulda been longer with more jammin' tho.

At least he didn't play Lolita. But your right, he played the weakest track off 3121.

ok i obviously haven't seen the show apart from the prince performances
and the tiny little bit of this Damon Wayans so this is not a comment
directed toward him or anything but I just think that presenters of all
these type of award/performing shows on tv are usually lame as hell and
whenever they are not just lame they are lame and offensive.

didn't mtv once fire a guy who was too damn explicit and offensive as
he presented the mtv music awards one year?

really, i keep wondering why people accept the job of hosting a show on
live tv. everyone always hates whatever they do, and usually justly so,
cus they suck at it 90% of the time.

Everytime Prince takes the stage now, I just think the guy IS a legend. Prince is right-up there with the BEST. Regardless of someone like Busta's reaction(Busta isn't even in the same league), I think that Prince has eclipsed Michael Jackson as far as respect by his peers--as an artist. I'm not talking about sales. Sometimes respect isn't about sales. Right now, I look at Prince as someone like Eric Clapton, Sting, as I previously mentioned, and Stevie Wonder. It doesn't really matter how much or little Prince sells at this point: he is respected. People look forward to seeing him perform. In fact, I don't even think he comes across as eccentric as he used to be. From what I've been reading here, Prince seems to really enjoy his fans. I think that is the reason he might enjoy playing in smaller venues.

I'm really so proud to have been a Prince fan for now 20 years. It's great to have seen him evolve. In a way, Prince reminds me of the actor Johnny Depp. People sort of took them both for granted for a while even though the public knew that they were talented. But now both of them are hugely respected for their crafts. It's great to see. Plus both Prince and Johnny just seem to be be comfortable in their own skins. They seem to be comfortable with their fans, status, and hopefully happy in their lives.

You are so dead on it. I posted a review where someone said her new female band did not disappoint. I was thinking, THEY ARE NOT PLAYING!!! I wondered if they were models or something when I saw the two keyboardists over there. Beyonce barely sang herself. She pranced around and occaisonally sang a note, but the track was mostly playing and at times she didn't even bother to lip sync to it. Thank goodness for Prince!!

Very well stated, and as a fan for more than 20 years, I could not agree more. He is at the point in his career where he can do whatever he wants. HE IS THAT TALENTED. I feel so fortunate to have had him during my life's journey. I've read about so many great musicians of the past and listen to their music, but I have lived the Prince experience and it has been a wonderful trip. It just keeps on getting better. He's such an X factor. You never know what he's going to do, he always keeps it exciting. Sometimes he hits, sometimes he misses, but he never gets complacent. He never lives on his legacy. He keeps growing and evolving and I LOVE HIM for it.

I get sick of people who want to lock him in a time capsule. The man keeps moving forward and it is a joy to see. He's given us so much great music in the past and continues to give us great music. For those people who don't appreciate what he's doing now, wait a few years. History will show you how beautiful this music is that he is creating. Sometimes people get so caught up in the nostalgia related to the older songs that their minds aren't open to receive the new. Once you allow yourself to embrace this music, you will be able to enjoy it. In it you see his personal and musical evolution. It's fantastic.

I'll talk guitar. I think it was just that he had the mega delay distortion thing on, one side, and him without delay on the other side. I liked 3121, because it was something I didn't expect to see, I think the only thing he could have done better on that song was turn up his mic, or move alil more, he don;t move around to much.

I think Tamar looks really pretty here. The outfit is kinda crazy, as is the hair, but I like it and it looks 1000 times better than that get up she had on for GMA. Could lay off the supa-pink blush a bit though.

This outfit is HORRIBLE....and I notice that most of the clothes on her are terrible. Who is making the decisions for her because it needs to change QUICK!

CoolMF

My thoughts on Prince- he turned the awards out and it's great to be in my low-30's and still experience "great nights to be a Prince fan". 1987 MTV awards/R&R Hall of Fame/BET awards- it was great seeing him perform "I Feel For You" and "3121", which was funky as hell. I'm not mad at him for not doing "Black Sweat"- that's a dance number and Chris Brown had the dancing on lock for that night. You couldn't dance after him (unless you're Usher or Omarion) and it's great seeing Prince get a nice award in 2006- dude is still relevant in popular music. By the way, will.I.am was impressive- his freestyle to "3121" was f-----g classic!

As for the rest of the awards, Damon wasn't too bad as a host (I've always enjoyed his brand of stand up), the Good Times reunion was the photo-op of the evening and very cool, Busta still brings one of the best performances in hip hop (if you've never caught a Busta show, there's still time- his energy and stage presence is great), I respected Jamie Foxx's vocal and performance abilities, and maybe it's because I'm such a Diddy fan that I enjoyed his contribution to Young Joc. Hell, I found myself getting extremely hyped as Diddy started bopping across the stage with that "As we proceed..."
