Crucial Ok so i am listening to Crucial as i type this, and i don't understand why it was left off Sign O The Times. It's much stronger than Adore, which i believe replaced it. It would have fit much better as an end to the record i think!

Crucial is beautiful. It should have been there WITH Adore, not instead if it.
I'm sure my neighbors think I'm loony when I play this song, I blast it and screech all the way through.....

Crucial and Adore are two completely different listening experiences for me. I love them both. But they create two entirely different moods.
I have to say, though, that the ending of Crucial makes me all tingly. I love that guitar solo. Isn't there a longer version somewhere?... That doesn't fade out?

If I remember correctly there's also a version featuring Miles Davis... It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I hate comparing the two, because I love them each on their own terms and wouldn't want to give up either. And yeah, the ending of "Crucial" is pretty sweep-you-off-your-feet. Uh-uh. Back when it was strictly a bootleg, there were folks who speculated that Miles was playing on it, but that turned out to be false. The Normal Whores Club

I never said it should replace adore totally, it should just be moved to about half way through the record. The song i would totally erase is If I Was You Girlfriend! Your thoughs... Yes. "Crucial" is more sweeping and more of a power ballad than "Adore." I'd take "Crucial" over "Adore." Hell, I'll take "Pink Cashmere" over "Adore."

Adore is the GREATEST SONG of ALL TIMESSSSS!!!!
End of discussion. Crucial is a wonderful song, and I enjoy it throughly, especially the guitar version... but one thing I never quite wanted to understand is... Why does Prince say... "... prisoner in love with the opposite gender. I ain't sayin' you're better baby, I ain't sayin' you're not. I ain't sayin' anything until you stop." Is he IMPLYING that making love to a man "is good, but not necessarily better than making love to a woman"??? Hmmmmm... I always wondered about that line. The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

I really used to wonder about that line because I misheard the lyrics on the crappy boot I had of it. I thought it said "because I'm not in love with the opposite gender." But then again I also thought that the line "Is that Old Man River knocking at your door" was "Here's that lonely nigga knockin at your door." so go figure.

The full length "guitar" version of Crucial kicks the sax version's ass. And it also kicks "Adore"'s ass too. The edited "guitar" version on Crystal Ball was a criminal act by prince
