Are there any pictures/videos where Prince is playing random instruments like the TUBA?

I know he can play pretty much everything, but I've never seen pics/videos of him playing anything other than guitar and piano... Is he any good on the drums?

Yes he is. Mostly he uses drum machines though.

Just compare the drum programming of Prince compared to hip hop producers; Prince is superior!

He's featured playing drums in 'It's Gonna be a Beautiful Night' on the 'Sign O' The Times' movie whilst Sheila raps.

There's a short clip of Prince playing drums whilst George Clinton guested at Wembley Arena, London in 1988 in 'Prince: A Musical Portrait'.

Other than that it's down to vocals, guitar, bass and keys.

(And there's no film, pic or recording I'm aware of that provides evidence that he can play any wind instrument.)

I heard that he never learnt 'hornz' as he calls them, like the sax. That's why he gets people like Candy Dulfer and Maceo Parker to play them on his records. Personally, I think he'd look a teeny bit silly with a massive tuba or the like on him, he should stick to instruments that improve his sex appeal, like the guitar.

lol

Now you know that isn't him - whereas it is him blowing down the mouth organ on another 12". It's difficult to claim he's a harmonica player based on that evidence though!

Yes, he does pretend to blow an instrument on 'Face Down'.

If you can provide the Candy quotation, that would be interesting to read. I've heard it mentioned a few times, but I've never been able to trace it.

Eric Leeds has said in an interview printed on the official site that Prince can't play saxophone.

Interestingly, prince has stated on his own site (in 1998) that he does sometimes play horns.

I can´t tell you when or where Candy said this, but it wasn´t too long ago. She supposedly heard a tape of Prince playing sax. She said it wasn´t that great but still good for a non-saxplayer.

And then there is that famous first interview for his highschool where they mention that he used to play sax, but he gave up later.

( The article is called " Nelson finds it hard to become known", should be in the gallery somewhere).
" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Alan leeds probably meant Prince can't play to a high standard.

he said p doesn't play sax, no that he can't; take into account Alan has been trained and is a pro so he has high standards which Prince cannot match!.

It was Eric, Alan's brother, who in June 2003 said:

"Fortunately for me (and Maceo etc) he can't play the sax. he has no embouchure and you can't go out and buy one, It take s years to develop."

In line with the article to which KoolEaze refers, I wouldn't doubt that Prince picked up a sax at school and learned a bit about the instrument before giving it up seriously.

I spoke with a horn player that played with Maceo and he told me that Prince can play. Don't know how true it is though.

Candy said that Prince played her a tape of himself playing the saxaphone and he wanted her opinion on his playing. She said this in a interview that was on Housequake about a year or so ago.

Thanks. I'm presuming this wasn't a Housequake interview but just an interview that was posted on Housequake from some other source.

I'll try searching there then.
