Fantasy ALbum If you could go back and change one album or add an album at some point in Prince's career what would it be.
For me I would add an album between Purple Rain And Around The World In a Day. Credited TO Prince And The Revolution Titled The Dance Electric Tracklist Our Destiny Roadhouse Garden Traffic Jam Extraloveable Love And Sex Possessed Wonderful Ass Lust U Always Electric Intercourse All Day All Night The Dance Electric (11 Minute Version) [Edited 6/11/06 1:31am]

That's a cool tracklist. It would've been a good transition into ATWIAD too.
I'd probably change just about every one of Prince's albums in some way. It seems that with eveery project, there are quality songs that don't make the album.

The only weak point of 'ATWIAD' i would change is 'Tambourine'.
I would put possesed or irrisistable bitch instead. Purple rain; i would not have appoolonia's vocals on 'TMWY' and album would be perfect!

These threads always generate the most terrible song choices that really don't go on together in any possible way.

Though having said that, I did do a similar thing years ago where I made up my own 'what if' discography. There's actually quite a few Prince albums where I would've made a minor tweak or two, and a couple where I would've made more radical changes. Perhaps I'll dig them out and post some of them.

To be honest, it's rather hard making truly cohesive collections of the outtakes we have at hand. I tried that years ago and found it pretty mcuh impossible if you wanted to have stuff in the same audio quality from the same era on each CD-R. But on the other hand, these threads usually reveal a very good reason why Prince is the musician who makes the song choices on his albums and why his fans are just mere listeners of his records, who should be in no way be allowed to make any impact on what ends up on his releases.

Surely Purple Rain would have been better with the long version of computer Blue included.
Also the inclusion of Old Friends 4 Sale and All My Dreams on Parade would have made that album better. I also think Prince had enough great material to put out another album inbetween Parade and Sign O The Times. Dream Factory Its A Wonderful Day Teacher Teacher Train Splash Power Fantastic Crucial Last Heart Sexual Suicide Girl O'My Dreams I Can't Stop This Feeling I got We Can Funk In A Large Room With No Light Witness 4 The Prosecution Movie Star A Place In Heaven Others Here With Us Old Friends 4 Sale All My Dreams I think that album would be amognst his strongest Then Release the 3 album Crystal Ball We would then have a more comprehensive record of Prince's 1985-1986 recordings out there and would have further enhanced his standing as a truely great artist. I wish he would go into his vault and compile some albums of songs that all come from the same time frame.

Here's my little run through album by album (part 1 anyway)...
FOR YOU - not much I'd change here, though it is fairly short. Personally I'd be inclined to move 'Just As Long As We're Together' up to front of the album (just after the opening acapella title track), and maybe add an extra track ('Make It Through The Storm' springs to mind). Like this (with added Princebonics)... side 1: 1. 4 U 2. JUST AS LONG AS WE’RE TOGETHER 3. IN LOVE 4. SOFT & WET 5. CRAZY U side 2: 1. MAKE IT THROUGH THE STORM 2. BABY 3. MY LOVE IS FOREVER 4. SO BLUE 5. I’M YOURS PRINCE - perfect the way it is. DIRTY MIND - perfect, though a little short. I don't think it would've harmed the album to add an extra track or two. 'Gotta Stop (Messin' About)' certainly belongs on this album, and I think an updated version of the Rebels' 'You' would fit in well too (with Prince's lead vocals of course). Like this... side 1: 1. DIRTY MIND 2. WHEN U WERE MINE 3. GOTTA STOP MESSIN’ ABOUT 4. GOTTA BROKEN HEART AGAIN 5. DO IT ALL NIGHT side 2: 1. U 2. UPTOWN 3. HEAD 4. SISTER 5. PARTYUP CONTROVERSY - the first Prince release that even though it's full of great tracks doesn't seem to hang together as a cohesive 'album' IMO. Personlly, I think this is mainly down to the sequencing which seems to be trying too hard to mirror Dirty Mind's. It's also the first album that contains songs that I'm not so keen in in the context of the album (they'd be great as B-sides though). So this is one of the few Prince albums I'd change quite radically by altering the running order and replacing a couple of tracks. Like this... side 1: 1. CONTROVERSY 2. SEXUALITY 3. ANNIE CHRISTIAN 4. WOULDN’T U LOVE 2 LOVE ME? side 2: 5. LET’S WORK 6. THERE’S SOMETHING I LIKE ABOUT BEING YOUR FOOL 7. PRIVATE JOY 8. DO ME BABY . [Edited 6/12/06 11:42am]

The '78/'79 version? No, the '81 version that was recorded during the Controversy Sessions. (It was a reworked version of this recording that was used as the basis for the released version by Taja Sevelle).

you should make part 2 boris. they are very interesting specific viewpoints with answers to problems.

part 2...
1999 - nothing wrong with this album, though it is a bit on the short side for a double album (well, side 1 & 2 are a bit short). Maybe I'd add a couple of extra tracks, but that would be it. Like this... side 1: 1. 1999 2. LITTLE RED CORVETTE 3. DELIRIOUS 4. IRRESISTIBLE BITCH side 2: 1. D.M.S.R. 2. LET’S PRETEND WE’RE MARRIED 3. HOW COME U DON’T CALL ME ANYMORE? side 3: 1. AUTOMATIC 2. SOMETHING IN THE WATER (DOES NOT COMPUTE) 3. FREE side 4: 1. LADY CAB DRIVER 2. ALL THE CRITICS LOVE U IN NEW YORK 3. INTERNATIONAL LOVER PURPLE RAIN - perfect the way it is. I think any tampering here would only lessen the album. Yes I'm a big fan of the long version of Computer Blue, but it certainly doesn't belong on the album as it would totally upset the balance. It would have been good if it had been released on 12" though, as the B-side to one of the singles. AROUND THE WORLD IN A DAY - well, this album was deliberately made to be user-unfriendly. So improving the sequencing of the album may be missing the point a bit. The title track is a great understated opener, giving just the right signals that this is NOT Purple Rain 2. Paisley Park is a good manifesto but it's a bit too sluggish as the second track on the album. As for track 3, well it's WAY too early in the album to be going off on this kind of musical noodling despite tha fact that the accompanying ballad is extremely good. So I guess what I'm saying is that from a listening point of view, the front end of the album is just too slow and laid back. I could also live without a minute or two from the ending of Temptation, the exchange with God at the end is kinda silly IMO. Plus if you shaved a couple of minutes off this track, you'd be able to squeeze in She's Always In My Hair. Like this... side 1: 1. AROUND THE WORLD IN A DAY 2. RASPBERRY BERET 3. PAISLEY PARK 4. POP LIFE 5. CONDITION OF THE HEART side 2: 1. AMERICA 2. SHE’S ALWAYS IN MY HAIR 3. TAMBORINE 4. THE LADDER 5. TEMPTATION . [Edited 6/18/06 2:09am]

I also think Diamonds and Pearls could have been improved. IS 3/4 of a great album. The first 7 songs are all great.
