Ten Reasons Why Prince Should Play Lollapalooza This Summer!

1. Lollapalooza is a once-a-year music festival now instead of a summer tour, and based on its history and its current location in Chicago (great music locale, central location for out-of-staters), it's getting a reputation as one of the country's major new U.S. live music festivals.

2. Folks are waiting for a headlining act to blow 'em away.

3. He'd be playing to a new crowd, most of whom probably don't even know he has a new album out but were raised on "Purple Rain" and SOTT. If he's looking to reach a new generation of people who love music, this is as good a start as any.

4. A bunch of the acts currently playing Lollapalooza this year wouldn't exist as we know them without Prince's influence, so he'd be in good company.

5. He knows he misses the pool tables at Excalibur. Post-Lolla afterparty!! woot!

6. Kanye West is playing Lollapalooza, for Pete's sake. (I have no idea what I mean by this, either.)

7. It ain't Las Vegas, but there's nothing like watching your favorite bands and then turning around to see the sun going down behind a Chicago summer skyline.

8. Hey, Ween's gonna be there. They're from Minneapolis too, you know. nod

9. When was Prince's last outdoor show in Chicago? I think he's due.

10. Because it's an absolutely unrealistic, unfeasible, and utterly silly idea. You know, kinda like appearing on American Idol. wink

i dug the tamar show...if that's all it would be, then at least i'd have sonic youth, eels, gnarls barkley and a buncha other stuff to look forward to as well. it'd be a great opportunity to push her on a crowd who'd otherwise sleep on her altogether.

Like hell I can't! lol

Though it was very perceptive of you to realize I'm the only person to buy a Lollapalooza ticket. Are you Perry Ferrell?

ok, I changed my mind.

It would actually be kind of great. Prince has a way with live audiences. And if he pisses this crowd off, he's getting a boot to the head thrown on stage.

man would it be great if prince could share a show with anyone other than his own friends/interests.

this would be a great idea for a bunch of reasons. maybe being around other artists would inspire him.

you know he'd ignore EVERYONE. lol

but thanks for getting my point - this is the kind of thing that would be a real boost for prince's popularity. of course, i really don't think he can be bothered to escape the purple bubble.

nah. the audience is partly lincoln park trixies and their boyfriends (aka lincoln park chads) and partly music geeks outta "high fidelity" who wanna come off all alterna-hard but really want to hook up with a trixie (or a chad, heh), and none of these people would dream of getting their hands dirty by picking up a boot to throw at prince's head. they'd just go back to the appletini tent and bitch about him.

there are the more hardcore festivals in chicago - the pitchfork festival and the intonation festival are the big indie rawk geekfests - but lollapalooza is like the big mainstream wanna-be indie fest. it's not as bad as it sounds, though - if you really ARE there for the music, you'll see some great things. if you're just going to be a drunken alternafaux, i guess you'll have a good time too. all's i know is i saw an AMAZING pixies show there last year. shrug

5 Reasons Why Prince Won't Play Lollapalooza This Summer

1.He's Prince.

2.You're a fan that wants him to do it which means he won't.(see Musicology DVD,fan favorite bootleg songs that still remain unreleased and others)

3.Tamar, the Twinz, the Time and Larry Graham won't be there as the support acts.

4.Non-fans will get mad if NPGMC members get the best seats.

5.It's not fai-yah!
