Parade or Lovesexy?

I´m a big fan of SOTT.

And I also enyoy the pre and after albums, Parade and Lovesexy.

Right now I prefer Parade. I´m a kind of new in that album.

I like Lovesexy, but I find it less interesting than Parade.
I dont wanna suggest that it was at that point that Prince began to go down in inspiration. But certainly if Lovesexy is a end of an era, I would like a kind of Parade album instead.

I would like to go back to the future and just change the order: Lovesexy, SOTT, Parade.

Parade definitely gets my vote because of its cohesiveness and how innovative it was back in '86. I mean, I never heard Prince mix up his sound and add jazz with soul styles. This is one of his most interesting projects just because how collaborative and prolific he was while he was at his peak.

Parade is more melodic, but seems less like Prince than almost any of his albums, with a few notable exceptions like Kiss and Girls & Boys. Lovesexy is soooo Prince. That's not an insult to either, just an observation.

At the time I liked Lovesexy better. It really opened my mind, I felt. But now I like Parade better.

Parade. All it needs is a guitar solo (no, Kiss' doesn't qualify). Fortunately, there were a number from which to choose on Lovesexy (shucks, two on the title track).

My vote goes to Lovesexy by a hair ...each one has a totally different feel and vibe and are two of my favotite albums. That whole post Purple Rain pre Grafitti Bridge is my favorite era

Parade - it was his most collaborative album. Nice to hear the Wendy and Lisa influence on there.

I love them both but my vote goes to Parade. I love the artsy-fartsyness of this album.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

An extremely, extremely, X-tremely difficult choice for me. Even though I probably love the Sign 'O' the Times era the most, Parade and Lovesexy are definitely not very far behind, they're millimeters away from each other.

Parade was stripped down, back to basics, quirky and funky as hell. Adding elements of jazz, R&B, funk and soul that I never thought I would hear be meshed together so seemlessly. I mostly consider it a precursor to Sign 'O' the Times, a hatchling blueprint. With that, the album flows superbly. There's also an airiness to the whole thing that I just can't put my foot on, along with the obvious European influences throughout. Definitely doesn't seem to have aged any when it's played today.

Lovesexy is a plethora of different elements being thrown at you at once. Every horn, synth, guitar lick, bass and drum loop is layered so intriculately, it's a wonder it was even produced in such a short time. 9 times out of 10, the album just's perfect. But othertimes, it can sound a bit contrived and dated. The tour was the most rewarding factor for any fan that might have stumbled across it.

So, by a small, small amount, I would have to give my vote to Parade.

I think for one to definatly get into Lovesexy you'd have to like eighties pop..if not I can see how that album might grate on people's nerves. But for me it was awesome because it was danceable and poppy. Parade is one of his albums I like the least but I am musically unsophisticated so...you know.. boxed

Lovesexy, Lovesexy, Lovesexy (do I need to repeat it more?) Even Prince was known to have said, about Parade, that he wasn't too proud of anything on it. Compare that to the elation he expressed almost continually about Lovesexy, and the choice is very obvious. Parade is a good album, and 3121 may very well be the Parade of this generation, but it's not a better album.

Two reasons why I think Parade is a better album than Lovesexy:

Wendy and Lisa.

I'm guessing the reason why Prince doesn't consider it exceptional is because other band members (again Wendy and Lisa) had a big hand in the finished product. As big an ego that Prince has, he's not going to admit that one of his greatest accomplishments is the one he had the most help with.

Parade by a mile. That record being made in 1986 has not aged one bit. If anything it sounds better now than it did back then. He was at the top of his game at this time. Parade has so many genres that all mesh into one cohesive piece of work. It also was the groundwork for SOTTs but still sounds nothing like that record. Lovesexy is no doubt a favorite of mine...but its nowhere near as fresh and innovating as Parade.

I reiterate - whichever album Prince was happier with, I think is better, band members present or not, and ego active or not. I'll put it to you this way: My favorite track from Parade is Life Can Be So Nice, because of it's high-powered sound. My favorite track from Lovesexy is Dance On, for the same reason. However, when I heard Dance On, I almost lost my mind with that syncopated beat. Talk about now knowing how to keep my feet still! The difference between the two tracks - on the Parade track, there's help from others, but on Lovesexy, it's a one-man job - this to me will always be where Prince does his best.
