Prince sounds so happy in all the Lovesexy songs. Very cheery. What was going on in this time of his life? Who was he with? That he seems so elated?

Mmm yes...it does seem he was quite,er...ecstatic...during that era.

Yeah, but you can't have been anti before you experimented. Prince was anti-drugs well before Lovesexy. I don't think it is realistic to say he was anti it, experimented, and then was anti it again. I tend to find that those who insist Prince has taken drugs are into drugs themselves and it's like a way of justifying themselves. Hey, I couldn't care less one way or another, if he was a big drug addict but knocked out great music I'd still listen to it, it's just that there's no evidence.

I would have been happy too if I was dating Shelia, Susannah, and Cat all at the same time. P was spreading himself thin in 1988.

Some of the best music ever written by some musicians was when they were high tho, i.e. Beetles, Led Zeppelin, etc so definately would still listen to Prince if he did get high.

apparently you havent listened to this lp.superfunkycalifragisexy os str8 up about e....str8 up.i have done the drug numerous times and the song describes the total trip .

Well from the interviews and things I've read and heard/seen, Prince was in a particularly dark period when he recorded the Black Album and didn't want to project the negativity and darkness that album held. So within six months he had the entire LoveSexy album written and recorded. Prince during the Black Album/LoveSexy era was not happy with the state of music and confused about the merging rap/hip hop surge and certainly didn't understand why such effortless and almost anti-music genre was so popular. My personal feeling about rap was it was simple stories with simple to create, like fastfood - quick and easy. But we all know how fast food is no good for you, and the same with rap. LoveSexy is a happy album and that's what Prince intended to project.

As someone who used to do quite a lot of ecstacy I also think the stories are bollocks. E doesnt have the kind of trippy paranoid effect that the stories suggest he suffered from. Having a bad trip is more attributed to Acid and, to some extent even weed. I dont see P indulging in either of those. Charlie and E? Naaaa... He woulda made 3 albums a day if he was ever on that shit... He also would have embraced the world of techno and other dance genres too...
