Don't get me wrong, always have loved Prince and always will, but I think that over the years, especially as of late, his lyrics aren't nearly as creative and clever as they were years ago. They are much more simplistic, almost as if he's a little burned out in his writing. I just wonder if he is less motivated and now feels he can just "do what he wants without a lot of effort" because he has so much money. I think now he's pretty comfortable and doesn't care if he has a hit or not. I think about the contrast when I hear "All the Critics Love U in New York", when he sings "Body don't wanna quit, gotta get another hit."

Coma Pimp and Circumstance has pretty clever lyrics, so does Incense and Candles, if you go by the Bible study theory.
