"G7 Does Vegas" or "I Hate Flying, but will do it for Prince" SOUNDCHECK "I just want to get u to think about doing things that you always wanted, but could never find". My feet were still screaming from the Time show Friday, so after 4 hours sleep I set out for Walgreen's in search of epsom salts. Didn't know Empire Ballroom was directly behind Walgreens until that moment. I wandered back there and found Darklotus already in line at around 9am, having been there all night! We chatted and he told me that the line for soundcheck is forming at 3pm. Return to hotel, soak feet, call Kidwell, rest. Meet Kidwell at Empire at 2:45. I finally meet up with Cdaryl, Moonbeam and Gangstafam in line and we all settle in for the long wait, which we spend a good part of sitting on the ground, sipping beverages and munching. Thank God it was much cooler than Friday and breezy. We pass the time by telling our Prince stories, (everybody's got one), while watching trucks, buses and limos discharge various band members including Prince, which caused a brief stir. I was hoping to gain entry fairly soon in order to locate a bathroom. Once ticketed and identified, we entered the venue and made our way to the front of the stage. Our companion More, who flew in from Israel, tugs on my arm and points behind me. Prince is seated in a booth, giving directions as Tamar is testing mics and various crew members scurry back and forth across the stage executing Prince's commands. No doubt who the captain of this ship is. I suddenly remember that I have something for Prince and slowly approach the bodyguard standing next to him. He looks me over with a wary eye and I resist the urge to say, "I come in peace". I ask him to please pass it to Prince and he obliges. I beat a hasty retreat, not wanting to be in the way. I visit the facilities and plant myself at the front, stage left with my pals. Tamar is onstage, charming and engaging the crowd. Prince jokes, asking how many people have her album? A collective whine from the crowd about the delay. Prince calls a meeting backstage and he and the band disappear briefly. "butterflies dancing in your belly, like a ballerina" They emerge and Prince reappears, stealthy as a cat and is standing a few inches behind me. We exchange hellos with him and he gives us a warning about our proximity to the speakers and the safety of our eardrums. Thank yous and blessings are exchanged all around and the Maestro departs before I can ask him if he's going to see Xmen. I was proud of myself for not crying until he was gone. He exudes charisma, power and an exquisite sweetness. The souncheck continued with Prince onstage. More banter with Tamar, (their chemistry makes everything more fun) and songs. OMG! it's fascinating to watch him pull it all together. I wouldn't have missed this for the world. Empty Room (snippet) Don't Play Me (Lawd!) Thankufalletinme UTCM (I cried) When The Lights Go Down (snippet) Elephants and Flowers (yes!) 2 tha 9's Peach just to name a few. My money is already well spent. Red Headed Stepchild Love Changes Milk and Honey Never Loved a Man Rock Steady, (my favorite Aretha song) The dance contest was fun and Darklotus just might get to tour with Tamar singing Play That Funky Music. Good job! Prince mentioned something to Tavis Smiley in '04 about "old skin"? NOT! You only had to see him in that sleeveless shirt with the braided collar Saturday to realize that this comment was not true at all.....hotness! Josh, Cora and of course, the handsome, talented and ever gracious Mr. Hayes, I hope to see you around for a very long time. You were great. RANT "When Eye Lay My Hands On U" I hope that groupie is proud of herself because this really annoys me people. Unless Prince approaches you or gives you permission to touch him, KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF HIM! He is not a puppy or some inanimate object to handle as you see fit and he was clearly not amused. Please control your excitement because It's not cute or funny. It is utterly disrespectful to invade his space that way. Ask yourself how you would like it if a stranger came up to you on your job, grabbed your face and kissed it? I really hope in the future they only allow dancers on one section of the stage with security nearby to prevent this silliness. HEARTBREAK "It's just not FAAAAIYA! I was disappointed at not hearing The Word, Love, Te Amo, BLB and especially The Dance and Get on the Boat, which I came to Vegas specifically hoping for. But I must say again Prince, thank you for the soundcheck. It was a priceless and unforgettable experience to cherish amongst my most precious memories. Bless your Heart! Special thanks to Kidwell, V, and More for your kindness. Shout out to Cdaryl, Gangstafam and Moonbeam (who let me lean on his shoulders half the night without complaint). You guys are the best. The Gods of Concert Mojo were smiling kindly on our group this weekend. We arrived at the venue around 2:45 on Saturday. The line was fairly short. Luckily, there was a cold front in town and the temperature was down to near 80 instead of the typical 100 with a beautiful breeze for most of the night. Ivy worked her usual magic with the crowd, making friends left and right. Is there anyone this woman doesn't know!? Tamar's sister was quizzing the audience about various Tamar trivia. Ian won a single of "Holla & Shout" for knowing that it's supposed to be her next single. Shortly after we arrived, they graciously allowed club members to pick up our will call tickets, so that we could grab a bite or whatnot. I was really concerned about the General Admission aspect of it all. I get faint sometimes just from standing in place, and I knew it would be impossible to make it through the whole show that way. Moonsongs had the clever idea of leaving my hospital band on to see if the venue would allow me to sit somewhere. I spoke with security about my condition to see if someone would take pity on me. They told me there was not seating in the entire venue other than the $1000 VIP booths and a few bar stools where you couldn't even see the stage. But a very gracious man told me he didn't want anything bad to happen to me, so wouldn't you know...he set me up right in front of Prince's gear. The club was very small and my travelling companions won't agree with me, but I thought it was pretty nice. Prince was leisurely hanging out in one of the booths near the back of the dancefloor dictating very specific details to whomever was onstage at the time. I recall hearing instructions like "Lower on the 160," "Too boxy", "Turn the baby dial down" and things of that nature. Nobody in the audience could decipher any difference from all the tweaking, but it was just remarkable to hear Prince work it all out. I guess that's why we're on the floor and he's onstage. Ivy introduced us to her beautiful friend Aliya (Babynoz), who became our partner in crime the first night. What a pleasure! Anyway, I turned around to ask my friends a question and happened to notice Prince standing right behind us! Here's a brief transcript of our conversation.... GF: Hey Prince! Prince: Hey! GF: How are ya? Prince: Good, good. Prince: Do you really think it's safe to be there? (pointing at the giant-ass monitors next to our heads) GF: (pointing to my hospital band) Well, I just got out of the hospital and they put me here so I could have a seat. I wasn't about to miss this. Prince: BabyNoz: Is it dangerous? Prince: Do y'all have any earplugs? GF: I grabbed some tissue from the bathroom. Prince: You should put that in your ears. GF: I just want to thank you for having us in the beautiful, small club. Prince: Thanks for coming out. Romera: Are we in your way? Prince: Naw. Moonbeam: Thank you for doing this Prince. And God Bless You. Prince: Likewise. (big smile and he walked backstage) DUDE!!!!! [Edited 5/30/06 0:06am] oh shit oh shit ooohh shiiit!!!!

Don't know if somebody already posted this, but it's from hq:
Small club gives singer chance to seduce crowd with music By JASON BRACELIN REVIEW-JOURNAL Prince addressed the crowd like he would a lover, and the crowd held its breath, as lovers tend to do. "I'm about to get open-hearted," he purred in a voice that suggested he was inviting you into his bedroom. And in a way, he was. Forsaking arenas for a pair of sold-out shows at the much comfier Empire Ballroom this weekend, Prince made the place feel more like a boudoir than a rock club. All that was missing was the silk sheets and the heavy breathing. That would come later. But like any good seduction, Prince took his time. He used a slow hand to familiarize himself with the contours of the crowd before him. In this way, the show mirrored Prince's latest disc, "3121," which pulses with a newfound chastity. On "Lolita," he resists a young gal's charms. "You'll never make a cheater out of me," he tells the temptress. And for the first time ever, Prince enjoins a girl to keep her clothes on during the sultry "Incense and Candles." It's this mix of passion and restraint that makes the inevitable release that much more explosive. Prince's set at the Empire unfolded in much the same way. He ambled on stage unceremoniously around 11:30 p.m., backing singer Tamar, a diva-in-waiting with a fire engine of a voice and a glittery 'fro. About a half-hour later, Prince took center stage. He shut his eyes and opened his mouth, but no words came out. He let his guitar play the blabbermouth, and it wailed like a newborn. He then let loose with long, lyrical solos that were the rare blend of soul and dazzling technical proficiency. Perhaps only Jeff Beck rivals Prince's ability to wield monster chops with feeling. As Prince held court with his baby blue Fender, Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum played air guitar at the bar, while his bandmate Slash looked on, shaking his head from time to time. Prince played mostly by himself at first, cramming classics like "Computer Blue" into an extended medley that did its best to suck all the air from the room. When the full band joined him, including a pair of twin sister backing singers, the Empire exploded like a punctured keg. As Prince played "Lolita," he had to quiet down the crowd, which was singing louder than he was. And during a combustible "Kiss," several ladies stripped down to their bras as they danced on the furniture. The show climaxed with Prince and company pulling crowd members on stage, and before you knew it, a guy in a fuzzy zebra-striped sport coat and matching hat was dancing next to a gal in a red fedora. The band tore through long, sweaty work-ups of everything from Janet Jackson's "What Have You Done For Me Lately" to Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl," which Prince sang in a mock baritone. One woman in the crowd was workin' it so hard that her wig fell off. There it was, a mound of black curls, lying on the floor. The woman picked it up with no embarrassment, threw it back on her bald head and kept right on dancing. Prince kept right on going, too, and no one wanted him to quit. At well past 2 a.m., the club had to turn the lights on to try to get him to wind things down. Still, the man kept on going. "Don't stop until you get enough," Tamar wailed at one point. Not sure that was possible on this night.

They can't have him! --»You're my favourite moment, you're my Saturday...

It's easy to become critical of someone who has set the bar unfairly high so many times, but there are always moments (like this), that are undeniably perfect and showcase just how worthy of appreciation Prince really is. The whole club thing brought such a human aspect to Prince the persona. For him to invite us in.....makes being a fan so much more special. I had some absolutely amazing moments I never would have had without the club. And as zombieish as the people over at NPGMC are, I'd gladly share space with them to be able to have the amazing experiences I have had since 2000. Hell yeah. Say it again! From the music, to the live shows, to the Music Club, to the Celebrations... take your pick. We are very lucky. If people want to take that as 'fammy', go ahead. What other artist infuriates yet gives so much to his fans? That's why we love him. I've said this before: I'll never forget the experience of sitting in Paisley Park, during Xenophobia, cross-legged in the Music Room listening to Renato/Sheila E/John Blackwell/Eric Leeds/etc talking about their careers and artistry. Then getting a kickass show in the night. Oh, and not forgetting that I was walking around the very place where my all-time favourite music was created. I was sitting there thinking "I could be in work right now". Or I could be sitting in Paisley Park listening to musical maestros talking about their craft. What would you choose? Prince is his own worst enemy sometimes and I'll never understand some of his decisions. So I understand why some fans get their knickers in a twist. But when stuff like this happens - y'all can all go to Hades. We are very, very spoiled. More reports like this, please. [Edited 5/31/06 3:52am]

NICE... got my panny drawz all wet just reading this
