GangstaFam

During the first part of the 2nd night, Prince came over to Rita and myself and was grabbing our sunglasses to try them on. He tried Rita's on and instantly gave them back to her. He put mine on and they were crooked on his face. He made a face at me like "What the hell are these?" Obviously my cheapo mall stand shades aren't up to Prince's standards, but it was hilarious trying to watch him make them work. lol

jerkoff I just came

Aside from how cool it was talking to him, I was really proud of us all for not famming out. We were cool as cucumbers. I always imagined that talking to Prince would be the hardest and most awkward of all the people I admire. But he was so amazingly nice! What a great host.

Whoever says he doesn't care about his fans is dead wrong.

Man this report rocks!!! I'm so happy for you guys. I felt like I was right there with you reading this. And the fact that you guys got to talk and sing with Prince, man that's too much! I'm elated for y'all!
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Romera

Stymie's part:

I dunno. I really don't want to post the 'bad' portion of the nights. I am still on such a high and so incredibly happy to be with my friends whom I love so incredibly much. They have taken such great care of me and it's been so beautiful and overwhelming. The highlights for me for the weekend mainly was the fact that these are my very last GA shows for more reasons than I care to mention so during last night's version of JIR, I cried like a baby. It is my absolute favorite song by my favorite artist and I'll miss the craziness of it all. It was so incredibly cool meeting people from both the Org and NPGMC and making what I am sure will be lifelong friends. Talking to Prince without famming the hell out was pretty freaking awesome, too. biggrin

If I have one complaint, it will be that I hate drunk assed, rude assed Prince fans and even for ones that can afford to pay $312.01 to see Prince, money obviously does not buy folks any gotdamned sense and hometraining. I think that standing in line for five hours entitles one to the spoils of one's work. And oh yeah, motherfuckers please stop cutting in line. That is so tired.

That is all. biggrin

After "Beautiful Strange", Prince launched into the opening chords of "Peach" and I went nuts, having loved the song. Prince soon asked for someone to come up on stage to sing the vocals. Although several women screamed their desire, Prince joked "The song ain't called 'Kiwis'! I need a guy up here." Nathan started screaming and pointed at me and I jumped in my enthusiasm. Prince smiled and called me up on stage! Before I get into the details of the experience, I must add that it was particularly special because in high school, I performed a live version of "Peach" during a lip sync contest in nothing but my boxers and a funky hat. The song was one of the very first to make me a diehard fan and I used to play it before every event during my track meets. Subsequently, being on stage with the best band in the world to sing that song was rapturous.

Once on stage, I fell into an immediate groove, as if I was preparing for this for ages! I did my best to do justice to the song and managed to remember all of the words. The very coolest moment was after the second verse, knowing that Prince was going to launch into a wicked guitar solo. I screamed in preparation and pointed in his direction and that mofo rocked the mother! I headbanged my approval and shook my ass to the "Hot pants can't hide her cheeks" part. I was also able to flirt with the crowd a bit which was quite fun. You'll be happy to know I didn't perform the revised lyric, "The Bible's the only book she reads" version. After the song ended, I gestured my gratitude to Prince and the band and was ushered off stage, beaming with utter jubilation. I had performed one of my all-time favorite songs with Prince! Better yet, after I got off stage, Prince joked to Raul (one of the security guys) to give me some money. To my chagrin, 5 minutes later I was rewared with $40, with which I treated my companions to lunch! headbang Thanks for the meal, Prionce. thumbs up! I wasn't sure if I had made a fool of myself on stage, but several people lauded my efforts, and one even was convinced that I had sung professionally before! omg I suppose all those karaoke contests have paid off!

especially cool. It sounds like you all had a fantastic time! I think I'm officially jealous now...

It was truly surreal to witness. And Ian rocked it like it was his band. Prince's faces through the whole thing were priceless. I think he was surprised that anyone would do any of his songs that well. The crowd was way way into it too. I had a feeling they I had to be at these shows and that they'd be really special and I turned out to be right. My brother is the most important person in the world to me, and he's immigrating to Australia very soon. It's going to hard for all of us, but I think this softened the blow a little bit. This was some much needed closure to this phase of our lives together.

There's no way to know as far as I'm aware. Many people have the same screen name here as they do over at NPGMC, but many have different ones.

I can't begin to accurately describe the sheer joy of it all. That song is largely responsible for me being a Prince fan, and it's also the song that got Tracy into Prince, so it has even more meaning. That I could sing it with Prince playing guitar was unspeakably awesome. It was the culmination of my Prince fandom. Who knows when I'll be able to see him again? He doesn't seem to tour Oz too much...

It was definitely a fitting way to spend Memorial Day weekend. I can't believe that this phase is coming to an end. It will be incredibly difficult, but I'll be damned if we didn't usher it out with a bang! I have always looked up to you and you're the one who got me into Prince. I can't thank you enough for you infinite wisdom and guidance, which I will continue to rely on no matter where the world takes me or you. I will definitely look back at this weekend with great memories and joy.

One not so nice moment: I won the Tamar single and had it in the venue, but didn't want to hold it all night. I put it underneath Nathan's chair, only to discover later that someone stole it. sad

Being able to spend the weekend with Romera was very, very special. She is such an unforgettable person and I always miss her when we can't hang out. I've only had the pleasure of hanging with her 3 times and each time she's made such a big impact. I love you, girl!
