Soul Psychedelicide

Anyone heard this? The song literally goes on for an hour (the song's a year long and had been playing for months).

It's kind of a blend of Ice Cream Castles & It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night. Not as good as either, sorry to say, but it's very interesting to hear Prince & The Revolution creating a song on the spot.

Instead of stopping & starting, the song just goes on and on as they refine it. Great glimpse into the creative process.

there are a lot of studio versions of this song, the last one being my favorite. I don't think the live jam that is really Soul Psychedlicide... but rather makes use of that chant over a funk jam.

You're right that this version is more of a jam than a song. Are the studio versions similar musically to this long jam version, or do they just use the same words? It's a great groove, I'd like to hear an actual song of it.

the studio ones are nothing at all like the live jam, they are much more interesting! They have been widely bootlegged and are probably floating aorund as mp3's online.

hey, i've got this one and yes, it really is just a jam, looking for a groove to settle into. not that interesting.

studio versions are FAR better.

but what i want to know is this: what's this 45 minute 'lovesexy' jam that's been mentioned? i'd LOVE to hear that.

On the version that I have,it features Kim Basinger moaning at the beginning. She briefly tries to sing a lyric:

the (??) pump of sheer delight

I guess she was too "distracted" to sing lol

I've only heard the studio versions...

Am I allowed to ask what boot(s) the live jam version appears on?
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

It's on a collection of live stuff from the Parade era. Begins with Around the World, and into Parade, New Position, I Wonder U, Controversy, Delerious, Etc.. and finishing with Soul Psychedelicide.

I'm not sure which stuff is actually live and which is rehearsal, though. Soul Psychedelicide is definitely a rehearsal, and it will be boring to most people. It's just an interesting lesson in one way to work on a song.

Yeah, don't stress on it. I have a couple boots with it, and I deleted that song for my Ipod. Even if you like it(which I don't) you won't listen to it more than once. Parade Around the World is one boot with it. Nice sound and 3cd collection of live Parade stuff. I thnk there is also another one actually called Soul Psychodelicide with a yellow cover.

I did pay a lot of guilders (dutch currency) back in the eighties for a tape with soul psychedelicide and a version of we can funk on it.

Both way, way, way too long (especially soul psychedelicide) and offering nothing really interesting to listen to. A waste of my money, it was.

Sometimes Princes is overindulging himselve with jams that go on way to long and offer no real excitement or surprise, I mean: who ever listened to the full 21 minutes (was it that much? i sold that record) of the extended version of America more then once or twice?

Thanks to both of you for the info...I won't bother looking for it then.

But I would totally listen to America extended version more than once or twice--they play it sometimes on aol.radio. Love it! guitar
