Wondering if y'all can help. My Prince buddy made me a HUGE compilation of Prince songs as a wedding gift. They're not the greatest quality. There is one song that I just heard - it's great - I think it's called "I wonder" (not "I wonder u" but different.) Some of the lyrics, below -

Chorus - "i wonder if she knows how much I love her - I wonder if she knows how much I need her face around - I wonder - I wonder"

It's gotta be a B side from something. Can anyone help? I'm desperate to know how I can get this in better quality. Thanks!

The song you're hearing is in fact called "I Wonder" -- it was never officially released but has been in circulation for quite some time.

THIS is the song 3121 reminded me of--the opening anyway. if u mashed the opening beats preceeding the guitar in 3121 with i (or was he using 'eye' at this point) wonder, u might have something pretty cool sounding...boris, what if any album was this projected for? it's from '91 era isn't it? pre- diamonds and pearls?

why this track was never used is beyond me.
It is such a kick ass song and quite easily one of the best out-takes ive ever heard.

Am i right in thinking it was a D&P out take?

'I Wonder' is a great little track. The only worry is, if he released it, he might be tempted to fiddle around with. The version that's circulating is the essence of simplicity and perfection.

You are exactly right-I was listening to the song 3121 in the car yesterday and it dawned on me that it was the exact beginning of an old song. I turned to my wife and told her that it was a bootleg of some country and western sounding song Prince had done and she didn't belive me. I then worked it out, that it was I Wonder and was just about to begin looking for it when I read this post. Saved me starting a new post.

And i wouldnt say that I Wonder sounded anything like a country and western song.

The version I have has a definite bassy synth sound going right through the song(but most noticeable in the beginning) which goes right through 3121-it definitely is there. Maybe we should start a new thread "3121 vs I Wonder" to get other viewpoints. The reason I said it was country and western sounding is that his vocals have a southern drawl to them. And the humour in the lyrics and subject matter are typical of a C/W song-I believe he probably wrote it for some Country singer.

i loveloveLOVE his vocal on this demo track, though again, not being a c&w fan, i hear it as "bluesy" and imagined joe cocker(similar vocal to 5 women) or even, say, bb king. . .
who was the country dude that john mayer performed with a while back?--he should do it!

I definitely hear the similiarities between the two songs. It's kind of hard at first because the quality of my track is so poor...but it's there. It's just a cool, groovin', get my mind off of mind-blowing traffic kinda song. God bless our sexy vegetarian.
