I got into music when I was 12.There was so much great music on the radio.
When my dad bought a stereo in 85 I got my first tapes.Wham!was the first, that was exiting, but when I got Purple Rain, things were about 2 change 4eva!
I became addicted 2 the album, every song was amazing, not long after ATWIAD came out,I saved 4 that, even though that wasn't as amazing once I got 1999 there was no hope 4 me,this was a life long thing, theres just never been anyone as exciting as Prince,or as cool!
I just wished most others hadn't thought him 2 weird or sissy 2 b a fan of.

REDFEATHERS

About 1982, my brother had the 1999 album, I borrowed it and listened to it to death. I was 11. It wasn't until Purple Rain and the video for When Doves Cry that I became REALLY heavily into him.

I think it was 1984 when 'When doves cry' came out. And I was 12. My interest gradually increased from then. By 1986, I was well into him.

'84, Purple Rain the movie did it for me, I was only 9 yrs old then. So when I got older I started buying all of the albums from the previous years. So I would have everything he ever put out. And from that moment on I bought every album every year.

1982, when I was 16 or 17. Borrowed 1999 from a friend, loved it. Purple Rain came out and that was it! I then went back and got everything else. I'm from BFE Indiana, where Lynard Skynard is a hero, at least back then. Being a Prince was, and still is, an oddity around here. But I don't care. You can't account for taste.

That's funny. Michael Jackson scares my neice real bad. She has nightmares that he is coming to get her. I would think my nephew would be more scared!

Fall of '78!

I walked into this "wrecka stow" on East 79th Street on the Southside of Chicago and the first thing I saw was this huge wall sized poster of the "finest muh-fukka I'd seen in ages"! The 'fro was big fro and the face was... Damn!! I thought to myself, "who is that fine brotha right there?!!?"

I've loved him from the moment I heard that first scream!

It was the Lovesexy album for me... when I was about 17. This immediately made me buy his entire back catalogue. I would've loved to be in to it all during Purple Rain, ATWIAD, SOTT etc... I'd obviously heard the singles from these on the radio but they hadn't really grabbed me.

That's the thing with Prince though - generally you need to listen to an album as a whole to fully appreciate the brilliance of it. I missed that with the 1st year of NPGMC - listening to a song at a time from a download didn't work as well. It wasn't until I'd bought a PC with CD burner at the end of the year and arranged the tracks into groups that fitted together that I really appreciated how much good stuff had been made available.
