CELEBRITY SAL PARTIES WITH PRINCE

Just before the Grammy Awards, Prince hosted a VIP listening party. Guests were flown in from around the world and treated to the sounds of his new album and a performance by the 'Purple Rain' hitmaker.

Due to "unforeseen circumstances" and flight delays, a few VIPs couldn't attend and I ended up on the purple carpet at Prince's palace. It was a surreal experience and goes down in Celebrity Sal's diary as a tough one to top.

Since then I have been trying to keep track of the ever-eccentric Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and it's proven to be a full-time job. He's been playing party host and performing non-stop.

"I got home from Prince's place at 8am," said Will.I.Am the day after the Grammys. "He's cool, very deep and very chilled."

"Prince's house went off!" said Jamie Foxx after the Oscars. "Can that guy play the guitar or what?!"

There were the Brit Awards, a tour and concert at hip Hollywood nightspot, Teddy's, which attracted hotel heiresses (Nicky and Paris), desperate housewives (Eva and Teri) and newlyweds (Jessica and Nick — well, they were then.)

There was an impromptu midnight performance for 500 fans at Tower Records on Sunset Boulevard just before his album went on sale, where he invited people on stage for a dance contest.

When Prince's album 3121 debuted at number one on the Billboard chart, he didn't throw a party to celebrate, he threw a party to perform.

How does he keep going? I wondered. "It's his music … it's meditative," said a source close to the star. "He doesn't need much sleep and really looks after himself."

"He's got amazing energy," agreed facialist to the stars Ole Henriksen, who works his skincare magic on the purple one's porcelain skin. "We go over to his place and create a spa-like atmosphere. We light candles — it's very zen. And his skin really is in perfect condition. He's extremely healthy."

Custom shoe and boot maker Gary Kazanchyan describes the pop star as the perfect client. "He's very calm and cool but knows exactly what he wants."

"Does he order many boots?" I ask. "Thirty pairs a month," says Gary.

And at his current performance pace, the petite star may end up wearing them all.

On Saturday night, the purple one wore three pairs of boots at his party palace, where he put on a three-hour show for competition winners, celebs and a few other sneak guests (like me).

Once again there were tonnes of big beefy bodyguards, a door list bitch and black shuttle to take you up the driveway. There was the big gold Prince symbol painted on the cream exterior, the purple velvet elevator and a purple carpet path to take you to the party area.

The performance room featured a screen that fell from the ceiling to the floor. There were plenty of lights, speakers and all sorts of musical equipment and mixing desks.

In the outside area, '3121' was plastered in purple paint just below the rooftop tennis court. This was a popular place to be — it had skyline views of the city, a bar, fabulous food and the chance to check out what the famous folks were up to.

Brucey-babe Willis spent most of the night here and was a stand-out in his suave black suit. On hand was a Demi-looking 20-something year old who he arrived and left with.

Jessica Alba and her man didn't adhere to the 'no jeans' dress code, but then again, when you are one of the best looking couples on the planet you can rock up in a paper bag and still look hot.

I'm not sure if I've seen too many episodes of the X-Files or just too much tan in can, but David Duchovny seemed slightly pale and pasty. He drifted in and out of the room throughout the night with a few different females in tow. Isn't he married to the lovely Tea Leoni?

Most of the male population at the party had their eyes fixed on sexy Sharon Stone. At first I refused to believe it was really her. "It can't be," I said. "There is not one line or wrinkle in sight. Sharon is almost 50 and that woman is not!"

Then, as I was making my way towards the bathroom, we made eye contact and she asked, "Would you mind helping me here?"

"Sure," I said and suddenly found myself face to face with her perfect-looking chest. "The clip has just come undone on my dress and I need to fix it up before there is a wardrobe malfunction!" she laughed.

I did the duty then hit the dance floor with Shazza as Prince busted out 'Let's Go Crazy'. But it was Jada Pinkett-Smith who deserves a mention for her moves. She was front row and didn't stop all night and even scored a personalised message at the end of the show. "God bless Jada," panted the purple one. "And God bless you all."

I say God bless you, Prince, for playing the ultimate party host and God bless the door bitch for getting me in!

I'm here to tell you, I'm at that road. And I would rather walk it with you than walk it alone".
