you lost yer "true funk soldier" rank when you made your addition to this thread. any "true funk soldier" (gahh, i've always found that term to be cheesy...) worth their weight in famborraccas would know that jam & lewis shouldn't be stricken from the time and set on their own, regardless of their length of time with the group. they were just as hot with 'em as they are on their own.

I don't agree! I give kudos to Jam and Lewis based on their own successes, based on the empire they built from scratch. Not because they rode on Prince's coattails.

yet another thing you've forgotten: they didn't come to prince, it was more or less the other way around. no coattail-riding involved, really.

BEAUGARDE

Jam & Lewis' earliest productions were still in the vain of Prince's sound, so to dismiss their stay in The Time is crazy. Yeah they did a lot of shit but their most slammin' shit was early Janet, Cherrelle, Alexander O'Neal & The SOS Band (all done in P's vain) regardless of what they were doing before P & after P The Time can not be denied when talkin' 'bout Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis cool

Flyte Tyme was maintained in Edina Minnesota from 1986-2005...and that's not a huge mark for them stamping Minnesota?

Pass please...

Don't reply if you're not going to read what I post.

The Time is still a big act weather or not J&T were there or not.

Id say Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are, better than The Time by themselves and should be #2 on that list.

What about the Gagnes,Verne and son Greg, Jumping Jim Brunzelle, and I think even Sheik Ad-nan El Cassie. Showing my age with these old AWA names.

Speaking of wrestling, I hear there is a card here in Alberta featuring Canada's own Abdullah the Butcher (from Sudan of Course, don't call him Larry). How long has he been competing? Blood will be spilt.

Oh yeah, Prince rocks!

Yes and no. Jam and Lewis are responsible to their success, but their tenure with The Time put them in that position in the 1st place. Again, Janet went to Jam and Lewis specifically because she dug The Time and the MPLS sound. Their success is always tied to The Time. Therefore, The Time's importance in music history should not be so casually dismissed.

Your argument is like trying to tell someone that Harrison Ford doesn't owe his career to being in Star Wars. Sure, he has done a shit ton besides those films, and had success other than those films, yet he is where he is because of George Lucas.

Don't forget, although not a Minnesotan, Hulk Hogan 1st blew up in MPLS with the AWA before he became globally dominant in the WWF. Hulkster himself credits the Twin Cities as being the birthplace of "Hulkamania".

I'd STILL put Greazy Meal on the list! After Dylan, Prince, The Time, and Husker Du (or maybe Soul Asylum).
