Which one is better/your favourite?

I'd side with 'Prince' because of the overall quality, but 'Soft and Wet' (from 'For You') is my absolute favourite song from either albums. 'Bambi' and 'I Wanna Be Your Lover' are runners-up.

Prince is better in so many ways. I'm actually mystified at why For You is so revered here.

I'd have to do a song by song comparison, I truly love them both. Maybe "Prince" by a smidgen, just because "It's Gonna Be Lonely" is so fucking wonderful

For You. Crazy You, I'm Yours. It's one of my favorite albums. For You for me.

The Prince album most of the songs on there sound the same. But I have a few favorites.

It's just so much more varied and interesting. For You is good, but it's a little
too 'safe' sounding for my tastes and lacks the extra edge that the 'Prince'
album has.

For me it's, 'For You'.

I love Prince, it's more polished, the songs are ultimately better crafted, but I find For You more varied and more interesting.

No contest- Prince wins. Prince didn't know how to write a good ballad yet on For You.

For You

"Prince" is a more sophisticated album and shows more musical growth, but I love "For You" just because it was an amazing first album for someone so young and having written, performed, and produced the whole thing as a first album.

For You

more polished (Prince even says "too polished")... and took longer to record than "Prince"

also contains stronger songs, and DOESN'T contain "when we're dancing close and slow"

though I do like the rest of the Prince album

For You is just more important, IMO and much funkier, despite its naivete... the real birth of Prince as an artist.

Good timing for this question, both albums have been on heavy rotation in my car over the past couple of weeks, and only this morning I was thinking that I prefer "For You" over "Prince". No deep and sophisticated reason for this, I just like more of the songs on "For You". If "Still Waiting" had been on there, it would have been absolutely no contest.

Always found 4u a bit boring compared 2 Prince, which is killer! (but mayb I should have a relisten...)

"Prince" hands down. I ran a thread about this album months ago. This album is better all the way around. Better songwriting and better production. It was much more balanced and it showed off his versatility much better.

"Prince". Better songs and a nice choice of musical styles. Plus that was my 1st introduction to him.

I love both...but Prince works better for me....with the exception of with u....get sugar overload when I play it....

I never like the fact that side 2 continue with a slow tune, as side 1 ended

I guess it's how the tunes are in order.

Plus they sound like demos..

It just seems to lose something.

But all and all at that time, it was indeed a good album.

Just side one is better...
