What is Prince's most UNDERATED slow song?

What is Prince's most UNDERATED slow song? It doesn't have to be a love song. But it's gotta be a slow song that no one really talks about. Don't list a song like Adore or Purple Rain. These are songs people talk about.

List a song we don't hear about much.

I think his most underated slow song in "Dark" the "COME" album version. Just the whole vibe is staggering. Slow and smooth as hell. And let's not forget the ending!!! Beutiful, it just want's to keep going. I love the accoustic guitar in the distant background.

That's my answer let's hear yours!!!

'nuff said.

"Dark" from the "come" album is a really underrated slow one, too.

"International Lover" from 1999.
This is a masterpeice no one talks about much. I think he only played it on one tour in the early 80s... it didn't work live as well as it did in the studio though.

I remember when SOTT first came out and several reviews more or less panned Ballad of Dorothy Parker as a failed experiment. I think I more or less agreed at the time, but it now stands out as one of the most listenable moments on the album.

Slow Love? That's one Prince song that I never really got into; though, I don't think it's a bad song -- just not my style. Maybe if someone (preferably a girlfriend) gave me a reason to love it, I just might.

I love "Dark" -- it might be in my Top 10 favorite Prince slow songs. I like it better than "Scandalous" and "Insatiable" -- but I never thought it was under-rated. Don't most of us like "Dark"?

Honorable mention: "When We're Dancing Close & Slow" for memories of putting this on repeat for at least an hour, playing quietly in the background, during one slow silent summer night with a beautiful woman -- "she knows who she is" -- I love the atmospheric feel of this song.

International Lover - Love this and he did do it live on the Purple Rain tour ('85)but not in full. Really nice Eric saxophone on the live version. It was talked a lot back in the day.

Dark - Lovely, but yeah, i think most people like this one.

Slow Love - The album version is dry, but the live version was fabulous. The scream/Yoohoo! bit was divine.

Everyone seems to like Still would stand... I never liked it myself, except for how he sings the very last line.

What about BABY? Any fans of this out there?

Another Lonely Christmas
A tear jerker for me. I love this one. Truly one of his best. It's got this other world, ethereal feel to it. I miss the echo on his voice.

Solo
I really like this one. Most people don't, but whatever. I thought it was strange, but vocally challenging. It's really stepping out of his norm as compared to his more popular slow songs.

Slow Love
It's one of my favorites, I especially right when it start to fade at the end, like it picks up in feel. The horns do this little thing, padah dah dah dah, pedeep! Really cool. A very underrated romantic song. Just throwing in the race car drivers line...like he's throwing romantic movie images into your mind...nice.

The Arms Of Orion.

There has been some severe bashing of this song on here lately but I don't think it is that bad. Very underrated IMHO. It has a very pretty melody, and at least Sheena Easton can actually sing. While it is a little slushy (it is a love song after all) there are some decent lyrics in there - "since you've been gone I've been searching for a lover in The Sea of Tranquility, drowning without you here". I also love the ending with the rising and falling keyboard/strings sequence.

Come on! Some of you know the (very) end of the song is your favourite part wink

Dude, "Slow Love" is Prince peakin' man, he'll never do a song like this that'll just put me in an instant bliss state...
I used to put this song on repeat when I went to sleep when I was a kid and just fall asleep blissfully and than wake up blissfully... I love it...

But one of his most underrated slow songs has got to be "It's Gonna Be Lonely"...
I would also maybe say "Pink Cashmere" but he fucked up the release of this little gem by chopping the guitar solo like he did with "Crucial" and "Purple Rain"...

Neversin.

I just hope you guys just didn't mention "Sometimes It Snows In April" until now because it's not a "slow song that no one really talks about"... because obviously, it is Prince's best slow song. It's his best song ever, in fact.

Dude, youre supposed to sing this to your woman.

Most like dark thats why it shouldnt be called underrated...wheneve rit comes up it gets praises for being one of the jams on Come.

Underrated slow songs:

1. Baby You're A Trip
slow, sexy, seductive; better than the JJ version

2. Power Fantastic
quiet, yet powerful.. can really set a mood

3. Moonbeam Levels
somewhat unorthadox, somewhat autobiographical (?) but indicative of its era

4. Eternity
a sort of "unplugged"-type performance; again, better than the Sheena Easton version

5. Still Waiting
chorus background singing has a "doo-wop" feel to it, augmenting the plaintive melody; stands out as 1 of Prince's "breathier" falsettos..

Pink Cashmere was left off this list because most fans do know about/appreciate this song.. I even hear it on the radio every now & then..
