Got Kids? Post Their 3121 Reaction!

So, my 4 year old angel, Sofia, had already liked Prince... "Baby I'm a Star" was her fav song.

She immediately liked "3121" and now, "Lolita" is her jam. She keeps saying "See ya, ma mia..." and "...'56 pink caddy, Baby...". I mean she LOVES this song.

I've taken her into my studio, and shown her how I make music, but she hasn't really heard me sing. The funny thing is, whenever I play Prince, she says, "Dada? Is that U singing?" When I say, "No. It's Prince. It's his song.", she comes back with, "He sounds like U". The other strange thing is that my singing voice rarely sounds like Prince... of course, it does sometimes, no doubt there's influence there, but her ear is actually picking up on range, and tonal characteristics, and making a connection. I have this kind of ear, but I never knew it could be hereditary.

Got kids?

My 10 year old son likes BL and B, Incence and candles and Fury off the new set.He is not a fan of Black sweat for some reason. He also has a bunch of his freinds hooked on BL and B. I love it!!!

My 14-yr-old basically likes the whole album. When I first played it in the car, she goes:

Her: "this is Prince right?"
Me: "Yep, it's his new one"
Her: "That sounds good. I like it"

She's said that for at least 5 songs at first. Then she just danced to the rest.

My son is now a Prince fan because I constantly play his music all the time. As far as 3121 he walks around singing "working, working up a black sweat" wink .

That is PRICELESS! lol lol lol

My 2 kids are much older and bombarded with Prince their whole lives so they try to act nonchalant, but I caught the youngest one singing Black Sweat in his best Prince voice. lol

The older one is diggin Incense and Candles.

hey mizG--I was going to ask you this on "our" thread (warms my heart!).

Does your son prefer old Prince to new Prince or vice versa? I have a feeling that it's the older fans that think the newer stuff is inferior more than the pre-teens. Kind of like the Star Wars movies.

We listen to this album everyday on our way to drop my kid's off for school. We take turns listening to each of our own songs. My 4 year olds song is Black Sweat. She knows all of the words and sings in a higher register. When P isn't singing she beatboxes the drum pattern. My six year old has seen the video, and makes the face Prince made in the video when he says" You'll be screaming like a white lady when I count to three." Very funny!!!
My six year old's song is 3121. He thinks P's speeded up vocals at the beginning of the song sounds like aliens. Both of my children hold up three fingers for the 3, one finger up for the 1, two fingers up for the 2, etc. while singing the chourus"3121."

My sons only 5, and he really likes The Word. Caught him dancing to all the songs from time to time though.

My GFs little brother usually stays with us as well, he's 11, and I've noticed him singing along to 3121 a lot. Strange choice of songs for the youngsters!
So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

Great thread, my 12 and 17 year old girls think im crazy because of my love 4 prince and his music, so when they were out 4 Easter vacation we spent a lot of time together. While driving we only listen 2 3121. They love Prince and know the words 2 every song. They want me 2 burn them a copy because they say they can't stop singing his songs. They r new Prince fans now after all these years. wink

Yeah, yeah. I worried about "Lolita" being Sofia's fav song at 1st, but I then realized that she just simply thinks the girl's name is "Lolita"... As far as the "bump, bump, bump" lyrics (and others), I'm not worried about it, since she is 2 young 2 know the sexual connotations.

I just can't get over the huge smile on her face when he says ..."'56 Pink Caddie, Baby...", and when she sings, "Seeya Mama Mia"... Oh. I also had 2 explain 2 her what "bad" means 4 the 1st time... i.e. "How bad is this girl?" She got it when I said, "Sometimes, bad means something cool"... I'm still just trippin' that she became a huge Prince fan, without my influence. It all started in the car with an extended version of "Baby I'm a Star"... Being a single parent, it's a real blessing.

Teacher; You are Sofia's dad?

Gio; Yeah.

Teacher: Sir,we are concerned about what Sofia has been saying to other kids?

Gio; Like what?

Teacher; Well, just today she asked her classmate if she wanted to bump, bump, bump, sir.

Gio; That's normal.

Teacher; But please don't let her listen to Darling Nikki anymore then?

My girls, 3 and 6, are all over "Incense and Candles".

My son is 8 and he likes "Fury" and "Te Amo Corazon" but lately he is hung up on "Motherless Child" from Septimo.

My baby boy, 1, is all about the funk, "Black Sweat", "Get on the Boat" and "Prettyman".

My 2 daughters, 9 and 6, are digging the album. My 9-year-old came with me on my little adventure to buy the CD at midnight, as soon as the clock struck 3/21! lol

They've been hearing Prince almost every day since they were conceived, so it's just a part of life for them. They have their favorite songs (Starfish and Coffee, Housequake, TMBGITW...) but sometimes they just roll their eyes like "that's my Mom's old shit."

The 9 year old likes Beautiful, Loved and Blessed, Get On The Boat and Black Sweat. The 6 year old is partial to Fury and Lolita.

My 15 year old daughters reaction to the album was "I like it,but he's done much better"
My 7 year old son loves Kiss and Black Sweat.
They too have been corn fed Prince from the year dot.
My daughter said the other day that she doesn't think there is anything she could say to me that I couldn't relate back to Prince or his music!

On the day I bought it they were lined up (6, 4, 1) listening to it with me. They all like Black Sweat the most. My 4 year old does a perfect Prince yell (Awe-oh!) with out me teaching her. I guess it's in her genes! lol

We listen to P everyday at sometime or another - so as soon as a song starts the 6 year old can just about tell me the title! Also she wants all my old records that I have from the 80's. She said that I will still have the CD's and she can have the big pictures. ....no no no! those are my wreckards!
pray God bless everyone. NO exceptions. pray

My 2 year old daughter, Gabrielle, has been brain washed. I will ask her who is the best singer in the world and she says..."Pince"!

And now in the truck she would rather hear 3121 instead of her cd's.

Her favorite is "Beautiful, Loved and Blessed", her favorite part is "Hey, hey, hey, wake up its a new day, hey, hey, hey raise your hands in the air and say...", you can see her little hands going up and waving in the mirror. The first time I say that...I had tears in my eyes!!! touched

funny thing is 3121 is NOT one of my fav songs but he has me play it over and over again so he actually got me to like it more biggrin

I gotta get Sofia into "Love".... That's going 2 be the next single.

It should be easy.

She already sees how I go off at the breakdown... "Bounce... LAWD...Ahhhhh, shake that thang, c'mon,,,, awwwww, bounce it baby...."

By the way, "Love" was recorded at 3121, which is Prince's mobile recording rig.
