Do You Believe Prince When He Says He Doesn't Listen To The Radio?

Whenever Prince gives an interview... whether in print or television, he always gets asked what he's listening to, or if he's heard so-and-so (usually the top act of the day) etc...

He always responds with something like, 'right now, i'm listening to Tamar', or whoever he's producing at the time... Never does he admit to listening to the top 40...

Do you think this is true?

I've gone on binges of listening to only cd's for weeks at a time, but usually end up listening to several different types of radio stations eventually. You need the change... not just what you own, but what you may want to buy (or download) later.

Your thoughts... fro

He might not listen to the radio per se, but I'm sure he listens to new music all the time.

Well, to be honest, I listen to the radio, but not very often and usually I listen for like two seconds while I'm switching CDs or whatever...so I guess it's possible not to listen at all. Usually I prefer CDs and tapes because I know what I like. lol I don't know.

I don't listen to traditional radio. It sucks.

If I listen to any radio it's "NewPowerRadio" or "HolyRiverRadio". headbang

He's been saying he doesn't listen to the radio since the 1980s. It's obvious he has though because he's tried things like rap and house. If he never listened to the radio, he wouldn't know about those things.

I haven't listened to the radio since I got an iPod five years ago. Can't say I miss it at all. The only way I hear new music is from recommendations.

Also he has paisley park as well as being in the business, so he may take note to listen to up and coming artist's or people that buy studio time and listen to that music. He is Prince so he has all different kinds of ways to listen to music besides the radio. Another idea is the bill clinton defense " I never had a relationship with that radio" LOL

There's more places than radio to hear about new music. I read about it all the time: the Org and the Club have tuned me on to stuff I would have never heard. I don't listen to the radio anymore. I play my iPod, my CDs or my vinyl.

I rarely listen 2 the radio, chart music is crap, well todays stuff is nyway.
Those damned mobile fone ringtone ads are enough 2 give me my fix of chart bullshit.
If i do listen 2 the radio tho it isnt a commercial station, therefore i dont really listen to the "in" music.
Also I Pods are the work of the DEVIL!!!!
These things are pro download music, but in reality that will be the DEATH of music!
There are two ways u can get music by downloading illegally from a p2p program, or from itunes or other crap like that, the problem with this tho is that the artist get minimal money from watever is being bought, if nything.
Therefore if itunes and the such grow any bigger than they have we will soon see artists making less and less albums because there just inst any money left for them to make cause there are jackasses out there who just pay 50cents for a song, not even downloading a full album.
Music is a job just like nything else and they need money too to survive, they are normal people just like us to, and if people go around downloading their music illegally or legally it doesnt matter cause either way the artist really isnt getting any income, now how would u like it if ur boss said ohhh cause we havent had any customers etc were gonna have to dock ur pay for the day. No1 would want that.

Prince said before a concert in Boston during the musicology tour...in essence, that the music flows through him..he doesn't know where it comes from, but he feels its divine in origin. to avoid static, I don't think he listens to alot of music on the radio. On the tours through Paisley Park, did anyone see a stereo..or sound system?

That's ridiculous. First of all, the majority of people fill their iPods with songs ripped from CDs. You don't need to get any music off the internet to use one. Also, the reports I've seen suggest the money artists receive from legal iTunes Music Store downloads is at worst comparable to their cut from CD sales.

That seems like a fair statement being that his radio activity seems very low these days.

Didn't he mention before that his peeps keep their ears to the
ground and inform him of the latest hot songs?

But, Prince has a knack for finding stuff that's hot before it's
known for many others, ie Norah Jones, Nikka Costa etc

I hardly listen to the radio anymore either, but I will watch 18 & Over
for the latest hot latin songs. music
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I guess he could be telling the truth.

Personally I have come to hate broadcast radio with a passion and I don't listen to music on the radio (thank God for ipod car connections).

It's actually pretty easy to stay as current as you want to by reading magazines, watching TV, talking to people, checking out what's new on itunes, etc...
