He should be more popular - everyday is like sunday and my love life are two of my favourite songs ever - It's interesting because one Smiths song is unlovable and there's a still unreleased Prince's tracks called extralovable.

Have seen both live - Prince well over a dozen times, Morrissey once.

Prince commands the stage, leads the audience thru a whirlwind of a show (usually) and leaves them always wanting more. Morrissey waves a bunch of flowers about, swings his mic around a few times (nearly taking out his guitarist and bassist in the process) and buggers off after an hour with the crowd thankful he's gone.

In my eyes, and in the eyes of anyone with eyes, this is a no-competition...

These views are purely my own and are in no way representive of any other Prince fans - after all, not many of them have probably had the misfortune to see Mozza live!

disbelief

I have seen Morrissey almost exactly as many times as I've seen Prince (4 including an aftershow)... I was as much a Smiths fan as I was a Prince fan growing up. You can't compare these two guys.

I have never been to a Morrissey show where the crowd didn't demand two encores through their tears and mania. It's a totally different scene, but it's complete nonsense that any Morrissey crowd would ever be "thankful he's gone." In many ways, his fans are more devoted and passionate than Prince's. But like I said, apples... and oranges.

FYI, Morrissey and Prince are part of the "born in 1958" crowd along with Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Michael Stipe (REM).

Ok, compare both their skills in terms of the factors of their abilities. How does Morrissey compare with Prince in terms of:
-songwriting
-musicianship
-showmanship
-longevity
-vocal ability
-attractiveness
-etc

I would say that in terms of songwriting, Morrissey is approaching 'comparability' to Prince, howwever in every other category (and I don't profess my list to be exhaustive by any means...) he lags way behind.
Morrissey / Smiths followers are clouded by the peaks he reached as part of the Smiths, but as a solo artist he has been cruelly exposed by his lack of talent (despite his first single Suedehead tantalisingly promising something different). Not close, no cigar...

You really don't know what you are talking about. Morrissey has never cared about competing with Prince, and I know for sure Prince has never cared about competing with Morrissey. Why bother? Apples and oranges.

"attractiveness"? rolleyes

You Are the Quarry kicked the shit out of Musicology left, right and center. However, I'm partial to 3121 over Moz's latest offering.
Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Anyone know why Johnny Marr and Morrissey don't make up? They are a hell of lot better together than apart. I loved the Smiths, but Morrissey is hit and miss with me.

It is impossible to compare Prince with Morrissey. Morrissey just ain't funky.

I'm a fan of both lads - it was great getting 3121 and Ringleader of the Tormentors so close to each other.

I'll say this though - I reckon I could beat both of them at pool.
