Was "Adore" a radio hit?

I was at my doctor's today, and while I was waiting, I heard "Adore" play. It was on their office radio station. Usually they have an R & B station playing, so my guess is that it was the same station as usual. Was this song actually released to radio? I always thought it was on the Hits just because it was a great song, but maybe it was actually a 'hit'.

It was never a single for radio but SOTT tracks were played often and Adore stayed asa non-single "hit". I don't think it charted in any way. It's just one of those tracks that became a real classic all on its own.

I thought it was a single...then again I though Hot Thing was as well.

SOTT
IIWYGF
ICNTTPOYM
U Got the Look

Those were the singles...Strangely chosen IMO

Adore, Housquake and Hot Thing received special treatment on the radio and in 12" form. I think P was thinking of THOSE being the singles but decided against them for some reason.

Basically. No. But if you want to include fringe US stations, yes.

I grew up in New York and I remember to this day when that song was #1 on WBLS countdown. Everybody on my block loved that song.

Housequake and Adore was extremely popular in many radio markets. Neither one was ever officially released as a single, however. It was thought that Prince/WB selected other tracks as singles because a)those tracks were already getting decent play on their own, and b) it helped to further promote the double LP album by having a variety of different tracks played on air.

"ICNTTPOYM / Hot Thing" was released as a double a-side with ICCNTTPOYM sent to Pop radio and Hot Thing sent to R&B (where it reached #14 on the R&B singles chart).

Wasn't "Housequake" the b-side of "U Got the Look"? I remember the 12" b-side was AKA "7 Minute MoQuake" or something to that effect.

What Album was that? It was on cassette. Parade? With Raspberry Berit, Christphor Tracy's Parade, Slow Love, The Cross, Paisley Park. That was the last Prince Album that I owned. It was on cassette. I was 16 then, working for a subsideriary of McDonnell Douglas, called, Morgan-Wrightman, on Brown Campus, in St. Louis, Missouri. I got The Job, through Our Highschool Job Counselor. I'd carry a big pretty yellow with black speakered, boom box, that had a double-cassette player, to play it on, everyday.

Yup, it sure was... Housequake was getting a good deal of airplay on it's own so I imagine it was seen as a good move to give them more of it to play/mix.

BTW,I remember an article from late '86 or early '87, might have been in BlackBeat (or similar mag), that indicated Prince's next single would be Housequake backed by Shockadelica. This never came to pass, and I have no idea if this single was being floated for Camille or the lead off track for SOTT but it seems like Prince might have been very confident about this track at one point.

I never ever came across a remix/special version of Adore. Is there one (besides the edited format which got onto the Hits package)?

It's still criminal that this song wasn't released as a single. One of the many things with Prince that makes you go disbelief.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I listened a lot of radio during the time when Sign of the Times was released, but i cant remember Adore being played alot, on dutch radio that is at least.

When DJ's were playing non-singletracks of that album, The Cross was played at lot i can remember. It was one of the tunes that made me buy the record even: my first Prince-record i bought.

Not just fringe, it got serious airplay in Houston on the main R&B radio station at the time (Majic 102). They still play it every so often.

Hell, here in NYC, even "La La La He He Hee" & "Shockadelica" got some play regularly. I miss those days when radio would play not only the A-Side, but the B-Side. Hell, i miss B-Sides.

cool I remember hearing that song every night during the slow jam hours. Adore was always played very heavy on WBLS & KISS when SOTT was out. They still play it on late night slow jams when requested. Oh yeah, all my friends loved that one.

KissFM also used to play HOUSEQUAKE wayy back.... and ya know LETITGO was on WBLS way back too. I miss VIDEO SOUL's DONNIE SIMPSON though that was WONDERFUL and VIDEO VIBRATIONS and Remember FRIDAY NIGHT VIDEOS and NY HOT TRACKS? But ya know once there was SUPPOSE to be a SPECIAL on in 1993 on FRIDAY NIGHT VIDEOS with the GAME BOYZ but INSTEAD I remember HOT TRACKS had PRINCe with that whole SACRIFICE OF VICTOR thing. Damn, I haven't watched those TV Specials in like a THOUSAND years. I Could Watch Prince's Vids and appearances Forever at Night on Large Screen in the Dark with Candles and with POPCORN Man ...Watching his PERFORMANCES and Past things at NIGHt well, that's what I always LOVED to do. Such FUN..... I miss his B-SIDES ALSO..They were SO COOl and his REMIXES MAN and then he had this thing where each previous album had like this last song that lead into the NEXT IDEA or MOOD GAME PLAN..... I SWEAR This is the ROYAL GEL.....And I wanna KNOW WHY he doesn't talk about May You LIVe TO SEE THE DAWN.....I Dug that Ditty At The End Of His Movies.
