Prince and Patrice Rushen The other day I was listening to the radio and Patrice Rushen's "Forget Me Nots" was playing. As I'm tapping my foot I remembered how the male vocal (only heard 2wice) reminds me SO much of Prince. The male sings " she'll always love you...forever" and is in a falsetto that's so P. Anyway, as I was searching for credits on the track, I stumbled across this. I had no idea she "worked" with him (even in a small way) early in his career. I remember all the teen mags trying to link them romantically in the 70's but that didn't last long. She speaks very highly of him. Scroll down towards the end to see that part of the interview.

I swear to god i was going to post this yesterday. I was reading the liner notes to The Hits/B sides and it mentioned how Prince had a crush on her and wrote and offerred I wanna be your lover about her. I was wondering on which Prince tracks she had played on. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

She's playing keyboards on the 1989 TV performance of Electric Chair on SNL.I think she was gonna be on the Nude Tour, but of course got replaced with Rosie Gaines.

They ran into each when P was promoting "For You." He was always a HUGE fan of hers. If you listen to Prince's second release, you'll hear a lot of Patrice on that record. The keybord solo on "sexy dancer," is totally Patrice.
She also taught him how to sequence keyboards and music arrangement. (this is all from a reliable source). Patrice has been around (recording Jazz LP's) WAAAYYY before "forget me nots." Do yourself a favor and check out some of her early records, circa 1975-77. Espcailly "Shout It Out" from 1977. You'll hear her influence on Prince.

What came first "forget me Nots" or "I Wanna Be Yo Lover?" That high string part on the 1,2,3,4 sounds similar in both. I love that part. ______________________________________________
