I am Proud of Prince Thanks for sparing us an American Idol disaster!!! So Prince has decided not to do American Idol. The reasons being released is that he doesn't want to talk to the contestants but he will or would perform.
Well I don't know if any of you have been watching this season but I am in 100% agreement with Prince!! For starters having seen what they did this week to Queen's music I will gladly thank Prince for sparing my ears those injustices!! Let's get real people. Most of you get mad when you hear someone sing or write a song even remotely like Prince (Van Hunt anybody!) Now you are telling me you want to hear a bunch of people warbel through his greatest hits!! I sure as hell don't One girl forgot the words to a Stevie Wonder song? Can you believe that? I would be furious if that happend on the show. And lets face it we all know Prince. One of those kids messes up ONE of his words let alone messes up one of songs and well..... Prince might really act like Prince. I mean old Prince before he became kinder and gentler. So as much as I agree this would be a great performance for us all to view!! And you know without a doubt he would comepletely rock it. I am glad he has spared us the indignity of watching him A. Whore his songs out and B. Spare us the horror of watching people mess them up!! Thanks much Prince. I love that you love your music and I respect you deeply for not caving into the pressure to be a complete media whore! THE CARDINAL HAS SPOKEN!!! | |

Nothing in his past career points to him talking to a bunch of young kids while the cameras are rolling and listening to them sing his music. Prince can be colder than Simon! Also did you see the Queen guys talking about how much they liked each contestant? Even the ones that really jacked the songs up? I agree I would love to see the kids give him his props but at the same time I believe that it has to be on his terms. I respect him for that. THE CARDINAL HAS SPOKEN!!! | |

As far as being "too good to talk to the kids" that some people claim was being harsh on Prince's part.
Well ... he IS going to be talking to a bunch of kids (and adults) at the Purple Ticket Party. So it's not that he's too good to socialize. I have a feeling that this was more of a push from Universal and Mr. Nelson keeping them happy with the consideration. I'm sure he got a fat check from the big boys and you'd be happy to oblige wishes too. I would rather see him as a guest on that show "Rock Star". The INXS show was pretty cool sometimes. I could see him schooling on songwriting, musicianship and showmanship. But I doubt that will happen as the next band will be Tommy Lee and the Guns and Roses guys focusing on a metal band. This "Pop Idol" crap, where you are a puppet to middle-aged wanna-be musicians/song writers who never made it on their own, now called "producers" that hopefully can flip you into a PRODUCT SYSTEM needs to just go away anyhow. It's been going south for years and unfortunately it's going to have to hit rock bottom before people will start rejecting what's been force-fed to them. Why support that system that he's voiced so much against since the symbol days? The only positive thing I could have seen out of this is if he had complete control of the show and voiced the real-deal on national television. But that ain't gonna happen on Idol. Not to mention Simon throwing in some digs. You know that would have happened. As far as being in a conversation setting, Prince is either on or off as far as holding court.  I said it in another thread that I wanted Prince to dfo American Idol UNTIL I saw last night's show. That was so horrendous what they all did to Queen's songs. They would do twice as bad with Prince's.I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that | |

Don't use the term "artist" so freely, man. That's like calling Britney Spears an "artist". An artist creates and motivates. A true artist will stand the test of time. The only thing this show had going for them is the initial episodes that humor on the weak "tallent" and even that is getting stale. Be honest. The greats inovate ... and will be remembered unlike most of the product and bi-product from said show. People dug a lot of force-fed disco in back in the day, but you won't catch those same people spinning those records (or 8-tracks) today. Mindless dribble that's only used to keep some pace while makin' babies. "Hit me, baby one more time" ... Heck, I'd slap-da-ho 3, maybe 14 times! Actually ...
Britney WAS labled as "Artist of the Year" a while back. I guess that puts her right up there with VanGough, DaVinci, Hemingway, Bach, Joni M, The Beatles and Hendrix. I get paid to make pretty pictures, videos and websites all day. Does that make me an artist too? All Rights Reserved. |

By the way, Prince does not get the honor of the "artist" status for his eccentric behavior, the tailored clothing or even the dance hits like "Soft and Wet".
He gets it from some (not all) thought provoking song writing, good musicianship, composition and kick ass abilities as a band leader that didn't happen over night or even the first several years of his career. Tallent does come naturally for many, but "artist" stature is something to be worked at and earned. Unfortunately for most, the recognition doesn't happen until after they are gone. Luckily we're seeing one in action. (Despite his current release, but that's a matter of opinion, of course) All Rights Reserved. |

Here in Brasil we have one of these reality shows called ´Fame´...ALL the contestants are SINGER-wannabes only. The winner usually records a Cd where he/she has no artistic control (only singing corny songs, oriented by a producer) and usually disappears, hardly recording more than two albums. In the 60s we had more artistic contests, where the artists were on stage to show their songs. Most of the winners are great artists until today and very respected. Today media is only concerned about ´instant celebrities´. |

Hell yeah, I'm glad he didn't go on that show. That amateur ass show is far beneath someone like Prince. Also, when those contestants get record deals, none of them jam. They just continue making the same slow or midtempo bullshit that's all over the airwaves. I don't see a future "Prince" or "Bernadette Cooper" coming from that show. Just another future "Shitney Houston" or "Freddie Jackson".
