So Prince has decided not to do American Idol. The reasons being released is that he doesn't want to talk to the contestants but he will or would perform.

Well I don't know if any of you have been watching this season but I am in 100% agreement with Prince!!

For starters having seen what they did this week to Queen's music I will gladly thank Prince for sparing my ears those injustices!! Let's get real people. Most of you get mad when you hear someone sing or write a song even remotely like Prince (Van Hunt anybody!) Now you are telling me you want to hear a bunch of people warbel through his greatest hits!! I sure as hell don't

One girl forgot the words to a Stevie Wonder song? Can you believe that? I would be furious if that happend on the show. And lets face it we all know Prince. One of those kids messes up ONE of his words let alone messes up one of songs and well..... Prince might really act like Prince. I mean old Prince before he became kinder and gentler.

So as much as I agree this would be a great performance for us all to view!! And you know without a doubt he would comepletely rock it. I am glad he has spared us the indignity of watching him A. Whore his songs out and B. Spare us the horror of watching people mess them up!!

Thanks much Prince. I love that you love your music and I respect you deeply for not caving into the pressure to be a complete media whore!

Co-fucking-sign.

And I happened to see the Queen karoke night. disbelief Atrocious. Can you image how badly they would have butchered Prince's songs?

well...firstly...I didn't think the kids did all that terribly with the queen songs...considering they were Queen songs. I mean...NOBODY can really do Queen other than Queen. So that says what for Queen? it says to me they are in that special category ...legends perhaps...So the fact that their songs are "butchered" by the contests really doesn't make Queen look bad at all..right? it actually makes Queen look better IMHO. and I think the same would be true for Prince. Sure..the kids would prolly totally butcher his songs...but to me..that only makes Prince look that much better.
oh well...just my thoughts.

That's a fair argument to be made. I mean Queen got mad attention the other night because of that.....Display. But what about my other concern. I am not so sure Prince would be as nice as Stevie was if one of the contestant forgot one of his words. Prince also strikes me as very honest where as music is concerned. If he doesn't like something he might just tell you.

I just look at Prince as a master. You kind of need to know your game BEFORE you work with him. Now granted he has worked with lesser talents in his past. But it has been so long since he has done that I just don't know if he is willing to do so again.

Some of the Idols are decent enough singers who might have a future, but when you get those few who aren't that good.....That's my only concern

hmm...I hear what your saying but...I also think Prince is capable of understanding "who" he'll be working with (kids really) I think he'd soften up a lil for the sake of young "talent" Let's not forget that those comments are all edited down from thier original comments too. I could tell when queen wasn't completely thrilled with a few of the contestants...they don't come right out and say they suck but...they don't say "they're great" like they do with the really great ones either. I'd be totally pleased if Prince was extremely honest with the contestants, as long as he was tactfully honest..ya know? Anyway I do understand you POV chilton biggrin

True true, but I still thought it was lame. I think that Queen isn't really Queen w/out Freddy Mercury, so the remaining members going on AI further cements the image that Queen is a 'has-been' (One of the same reasons I thought Prince should not go on AI.)

Yes, Queen got mad attention, but did it make me wanna go out and buy their back catalogue? No. I like Queen okay, but I don't own any of their albums, & seeing a bunch of teens cover Queen songs definitely did not make me rush out to buy any. It would be interesting to see if sales/downloads for old Queen albums increased this week.
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Was there an actual news item reporting this or is this just a rumor?
I do agree they would totally destroy his songs, I would enjoying see him on stage doing something new off the album though.

American Idol sucks. Maybe that's why he didn't do it.

Well put Chil. Although I would've loved to see Prince perform live, He made a very good decision not to do Idol. But it would've been funny to see him get into it with Simon.

Yeah, I think Brian and Roger were just being nice....hearing them sing those Queen songs made me cringe, but I was glad to see Bri and Rog.

very true..it was kinda lame, and I'm sure if Prince were to do it...I'd be watching through my fingers cringing the whole time. but I can not argee with the "has-been" comment...just can't do it. No way will queen any form of queen ever be a "has-been" in my book :)and neither will Prince.

it may not have made you go out and buy a queen album but I'm sure it made some go out and buy a queen album. And Queen doesn't have any new album out right now do they? Prince do! wink
this was a quoting challenge for me!
