I've listened to it about 4 times all the way through. I like it.

Strange - the video promo is what got me interested, so that's what I "see" when I hear the music.

I'll be honest, once, a month after I brought it. I liked it more than I thought I would but I never had much interest in listening to it again.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

He played it almost in full before the Aussie shows in 2003 and I think it works well in the background, and is probably the main reason I'm kinda fond of it.

I agree whole-heartedly. This is what I want to hear more of. His guitar
outbursts on 'North' preceeded by Eric's sax setting it all up is some of Prince's best moments. You need time to get into this...hardly background music or 'unwind' music as some are saying. I love Raspberry Beret but this is what I'm into.

I have to admit, I probably only played it a couple times when it came out. Listening to it now again.. just wanted something mellow. It's nice as background music, or for just relaxing. Maybe dinner music?

What do ya'll think of N.E.W.S. these days? Still play it? Ever played it more than once?

NEWS is definitely some masterful instrumental music! 100% True Genius! I've listened to it so many times I lost count. I think Xpectation and C-Note are pretty brilliant as well. I hope there is more on the way...more, More, MORE!!!!!
Just say "NO" to cow mucus consumption!

I think its a great album and I'm glad Prince made it. It gave his band at the time a chance to show off a bit. Eric and Renato's playing on West is just brilliant.

We're all so used to cute instantly gratifying 3 minute pop songs with cheesy choruses and contrived hooks it can be hard to digest music that requires patience to be appreciated and is not so formulaic. Everyone wants the cheap shallow thrill these days - junk food for the brain - and if we don't get it we're "bored", what a fucking joke.

Anyway, I've played NEWS alot more than I've played Musicology and, I anticipate, alot more than I'll play 3121. I just hope Prince continues to occasionally release stuff like NEWS and TRC in amongst the burgers and fries for those of us with more diverse tastes.

Every time I study I put NEWS on as it's the only Prince cd I can play and still concentrate rather than singing and dancing. So I have it on about once a week...good study music.
Time is a trick....

Hey, don't knock junk food. It's the chief source of nourishment for college students, bachelors, hillbillies, and drug addicts. All of whom, by their sheer existence, helps us feel better about ourselves.

As for NEWS, I popped it in today and North is funky as hell. I don't know what was up with East, and I fell asleep halfway into West.

To those who haven't managed to truly appreciate it, take another listen. That's not meant as a dismissive or patronising comment, but as a genuine request to give it another go. The depth of the album is incredible and it's intricacies are only appreciated after a number of listens. Who needs lyrics when the music can take you to places that only you can interpret? And as for 8m:30s into West... how beautiful do you want your Prince music to be?

A number of us so wish for non-fans to appreciate his music. This album is the opportunity for some of us to know how those non-fans feel and with NEWS, we have the ability to try and discover a Prince album that we'd never given a second chance to previously.

Agreed. It gets better with every listen.

And hey, I played it on my laptop and a Macromedia Flash thing came on with a written message that starts out fuzzy and slowly comes into focus. Anyone else see this????
