I hate it too, especially the one @ the end. I'm forced to listen to the song now b/c the album is just too short to omit everything that bugs me. But damn, that & "it's loco, right?" in Lolita are just maddening disbelief
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

I actually caught that on first listen ..but since he takes away the paradox (check out/can't leave) ..it was forgiveable (I mean he's conveying something completely different).

But then I forgive much of his rip offs ...he's ripped the Bible a lot ...like recently that chorus in Love: "out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks" (an actually Scripture verse) and reference to god as the "potter".

Well he really did create a crazy place in California where people were going, but they would get kicked out when they did drugs! lol
So I think he is fine saying the Eagles line, because there is a whole component to the concept that is "reality", and in the most steretypical part of LA...

I think he has always had a punk ass attitude about lifting stuff, like T-Rex's "Bang a Gong" for "Cream"....

Gett Off "Let a Woman be a Woman and a Man..." is lifted too isn't it?

I HATE THIS LYRIC!!! Everytime i hear it it makes me cringe...It just sounds so outdated..Like the lyrics should have been used in the 80's or 90's. And it got me thinking..am I the only one who hates this line?

So how about we redo the lyrics.....What would you use instead of "Its going down like the wall of Berlin".

Mine:

"Its going down...like my face on your muff."

I speculate that most of the music from the song was recorded in the early 90's.Which would explain the presence of Sonny T, and Michael Bland on the track.

It has already been confirmed that they recorded the music late last year.

Oh, I missed that. Where was it confirmed?

Dumb lyric for a dumb tune. The only lyric that could have saved that track would have been "This jam's a joke y'all...like I'm gonna open with something this lame?..ha!". Haven't played it backwards yet so I still hold out hope that that message is in there somewhere.

I've gotta say that the fact that there are people who think this is a great "song" (help me mother Mary) is final and conclusive proof that Prince fandom and good taste in music can be mutually exclusive traits.

oh, relax!

You got the best line in right at the start! My favourite by far.

But how about:

'It's going down ... like your drawers on my floor?'

What's the history of the fall of the Berlin Wall? I'm horrible when it comes to history.

What where the differences between the east and west berliners?

Germany was divided into West-Germany (USA, England, France) and East-Germany (Soviet Union) after WWII. Berlin is in East-Germany, but since it was the capitol the Allies claimed a part of it. So the western part of Berlin belonged to West-Germany. Like an island in East-Germany. In 1961 the Berlin Wall was built to prevent people from reaching West-Berlin and then being able to flee into the west.
What led to it being torn down is a little more complicated (more and more people fled because communism had basically failed) - anyway, it is amazing to see all the people on it destroying it back then and celebrating. After all, they were all one nation anyway.

It just seems like he don't mind leaving some phrases in the song even if it's a little off. The spanish speakers can correct me, but I think what he's trying to say is "es loco, si?

My theory is that this line has become the official 3121 methophorical punching bag, symbolizing our collective disappointment at 3121's performance on the charts. There is nothing particularly awful about the line, but people have decided it's safe to get angry at it especially since there are frustrating problems with 3121's promotion and we need to knock something, anything.

Nah. The line is just really corny.

Nah. It's only corny if you think the Berlin Wall going down is a 80's chestnut with no resonance in our times, and I think that is corny.

i dont want to hate the line..but everytime i hear it my body automatically goes into revulsions...

It's not the line itself I have a problem with. It's just the way it sounds. It makes me cringe. I can't exactly explain why, I just know I don't like it. It isn't really worth psychoanalyzing or anything. I think it has something to do with the fact that it's "wall of Berlin" instead of "Berlin Wall". "Wall of Berlin"? No one says that. It's NEVER referred to that way. And the fact that I know P has much better "going down" similes than that.

That is all perfectly normal and exactly what is supposed to happen when one suffers the 3121 Pain Displacement Disorder (3121 PDD). Your cringing is not really for the line but for 3121's potential fate.

This line makes me laugh. It just sounds awkward, and out of nowhere. But I like the quirkiness of it.
