It is rather outdated but it doesn't bother me so much because Prince has done this before... in the song SOTT, no less, when he sings about "And we're sending people 2 the moon" looooong after we'd stopped.

The chorus certainly does... the complete line in question is "Sister killed her baby cuz she couldn't afford 2 feed it And we're sending people 2 the moon"... It's obviously another comment on space exploration but the problem is it's an out of date reference. The last Apollo landing was in 1972.

Am I the only person who thinks Prince was trying to be poetic in his allusion to the Berlin Wall and all it symbolized? Otherwise, yeah... stupid line.

First of all, to me it sounds like he's saying 'It's going down like the wall IN Berlin." which is fine.
Even if he says "of", artists have license to make up their own syntax in the name of creativity. And I don't think it's dated, considering the Berlin Wall is still down. But is is HORRIBLY, HORRIBLY LAME!!! The first reference is Ok because it's barely audible.. But if they ever release 3121, they have to cut that last reference that ends the song. It totally fukks up an otherwise great song. Just end with "y'all can't never leave, not evah."

I like the line. Go listen to old P-Funk and they say silly lines like this all the time, if you can hear that groove and a LINE bothers you, you ain't funky...you ain't funky at ALL! Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

I like the line a lot! especially the first time leading into the wacky horn part... I think its fascinating that some people cringe at the line, why? Is the metaphor to blatant?

I don't understand, he's not writing a report, sending people to the moon never made me think of NASA's specific moon exploration at all, it just meant money given to space exploration.... ...we are planning to send people again really soon by the way. Yeah, I know what I mean. Right away, the first cat that I thought of was Bowie and the song "Heroes". SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

It's not that bad. I think he wanted "Berlin" to repeat at the end, so he said Wall of Berlin instead of Berlin Wall. And the Berlin Wall going down is and will remain a symbol for change, like "he had his Waterloo when (fill in event that ended someone's career".
Of all the things that could irritate someone on a Prince record, that doesn't rank very high.
