her full name is Maxine Dionne Martin...
'THE STORY' is n the Prince novel '7'. the author is Tayknmi Azziz xcerpts can b found on line at http://xperiment.org n the archives, start @ #178- #190 just so u don't miss any thing. eye do blieve it is ian Kilgan's old prince site. the full novel is due 2 b published n fall, of 2002-2003, pending no disruption of submission. | |

Someone on the old "U ask  " at NPGONLINELTD asked Prince who Dionne was and he said something to the effect that she lives in London and she knows who she is. | |

I am 100% sure it is about Vanity. The song wa written after Vanity's surprise wedding in 1995. There was a picture of Vanity and her then husband in an issue of People magazine. The couple were holdind hands and the caption read 'Vanity weds her man." Thus the lyrics:

You should have held my hand I should have been your man I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you are not really 100% sure that the song is about Vanity. Because unless you are Prince you can't know this for sure being as he has never said this. The only thing he has ever said about this song is that Dionne lived in London (which of course may or may not be true). BTW the lyrics are: "You should have held my hand, You should have let me be your man" I have always believed that this was a song about a woman that Prince never had, but wanted.
