Prince album covers!

Does anyone know the history of his cover art? I liked most of his covers with Warner Bros but have found since he left the quality is very low quality. TRC finally got him back on track. Does anyone know if Prince had a lot of input into his album covers? Did he draw the 1999 cover? What's your favorite cover? Mine is either 1999 or SOTT.

Istenzek, "cardboard" packaging - known as digipaks - is actually far more luxurious type of packaging than the awful jewelcases. And I'm glad Prince is steering away from the cheap "See, I'm Britney and I sell a lot of records to anal retentive kids" jewelcases. Most music collectors prefer digipaks because they look far superior and in case you haven't noticed all these limited editions people are putting out come out in some sort of special packaging - usually digipaks. Why? Because they look far better, much more what real albums should look like - and are more expensive to produce.

See, it's actually the other way around.

I just love TRC cardboard cover, bcause its sooo cool when you put it on shelf and you can see Prince looking at U! Instead of normal text Prince : The Rainbow Children there actually a picture of Prince. Thats just awesome!

I think many of his covers are pretty ugly. Emancipation, Prince, Controversy, Symbol, Graffiti Bridge..

Parade and SoTT and Lovesexy are my favourites, besides TRC.

... oops. forgot Around the world in a day, which is one of the most interesting LP covers. Doesnt work in CD format.

Symbol is awesome! In it's rather campy 60's sci-fi movie kind of way...

best prince albumcovers (not in this specific order):

1. sign o' the times
2. around the world in a day
3. 1999
4. the rainbow children
5. black album

the rest of prince's albumcovers are mostly shite! the covers from the late 70's and the 80's are just too raunchy for my taste, funny but raunchy. in the 90's plus the last couple of years prince has shown us that he and/or his artcrew just don't now how to deal with photoshop.. pure crap!
don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
purple music does the same to my brain

I love the PARADE cover - captures the style of that period well.

LOVESEXY stands out for obvious reasons and does the same as the above.

Ditto DIRTY MIND

Don't think much of his first two covers. Don't like CONTROVERSY or GRAFITTI BRIDGE either.

The others are ok i guess, but the PURPLE RAIN cover is probably the one that conjures up the most memories. It is the image that he will always be remembered for.

Not from an album, but the 12" single of the 'Gotta Stop Messin' About' features a badass photo of Prince on the cover.

Let's not forget the infamous "shower" photograph on the limited edition poster that came inside the 'Controversy' album. IMO, this should have been the cover for that album!

Prince is still getting to grips with PhotoShop so give him time.

I like the Gold Experience Cover, him peeping through a veil of gold. Very nice. The one on Lovesexy is always a good talking point. But for the most interesting it has to be Rave Un2.

The one fo r Lets Work long version..with him and the band..I love that pic. I want a poster of it. For 1999 he should have had the band pic that was on one of the sleeves as the cover. That shit is tooo chilll.

I Agree the Band Photos back then were too cool.the Inside Cover to "Dirty Mind" worked well for the time period as well.
