There are TWO Guarantees:

1. There will be NO Behind the Music:Prince

&

2. Prince will NEVER be an MTV Icon.

For these two things to happen Prince would have to cooporate AND work with MTV.

Sorry, ain't gonna happen..

Good call.

On the subject of the thread; I don't know why Prince fans want him to be accepted at Mtv anymore.

I think Prince DID make good videos for a while. Raspberry Beret, batdance and Partyman were very entertaining. Kiss and Scandalous for their sheer simplicity.

But, in no way has Prince kept that up long enough to be an MTV ICON.

Also, Aerosmith has had their share of good video moments, maybe a titch trashy, but... smile

The thing is both Janet and Aerosmith made and continue to make an impact on the mainstream music biz when they put out new music. Prince doesn't. These things don't mater to me or influence the way I feel about Prince but, since MTV is rewarding that ongoing impact with their Icon award, I don't think it's right for Prince.

I could care less.
Prince is BIGGER then MTV.
(One of the only reasons I want Prince to be popular again is so us, his hardcore fans stopped getting reamed in the ass for cd's n concert tickets. More fans, more tickets sold, less ticket prices.)

Britney Spears will be an MTV ICON before Prince.

Prince is the greatest living musician alive. Even the stuff you guys call trash is better then half of the crap out there.

Until Judy Mcgrath is replaced on MTV, don't expect for Prince to ever be groundbreaking on there again.

When I think of MTV, I think of the Real World. I don't even think of videos anymore.

I am sorry but VH-1 (altho owned by Viacom like MTV) in the past year has been showing more videos before MTV. The New Pink was airing for WEEKS on VH-1.
MTV doesn't have the balls to play Kid Rock's new song (even tho it sucks) but yet, VH-1 airs it once a night.

Give me VH-1 Classic n sometimes MTV2 (When thier programing guide is actually right) over MTV any day.

Shoot, I wish Prince would just release all his darn videos on DVD already!
Released n Unreleased.
I rather show my friends his videos in crisp quality (even if you say they suck, he still is different) & let them decide what they want.
MTV music's ratings are dropping cuz you have a 50 year old woman making a playlist for 12-18 year olds (Yes, that is thier demographic now).

What Miles said to Prince at the Celebration about him not wanting Miles's Ugly Belt, " F U"
Forget you, MTV n Icon.

what the hell is this steal my thoughts day hehe wink i have 2 agree, the answer screams of a NO NO ... what reasons does prince have 2 appeal 2 mtv & its viewers anyway, its not as if they can fill in some cracks in his opaque world ... sure it would do no wrong 2 see some footage on the boob tube but praise from MTV isnt really a compliment ...

Nah!

he's too good 4 MTV, Prince is a genius, put him on MTV and U're missing a stroke on a perfect picture.

To realise this U must experience him live on stage...then U'll see how good he really is.

He doesn't need MTV, only his guitar that's all.

Fristly, I saw the beginning of the Aerosmith Icon show the other day, and in the opening credits for the show they showed Prince, so he is obviously someone MTV percieve as an icon (in terms of the show). Whether he would consent to getting involved would probably depend on what side of bed he got out of, like most of his artistic and business decisions.

Secondly, he may not have based his career on great videos, but he has certainly made a number of good ones. Rasberry Beret? Kiss? Girls and Boys, U Got The Look? Alphabet ST? Batdance? ... You all talk about Michael and Madonna. Apart from the obivous first singles of each album (which in MJ's case is about 4 songs) I don't really think they have made that many better ones. In MJ's case he couldn't even manage that for his last album. Prince has never made sucha a stupid video. Some of them r just lazy, but 'Rock My World' was a joke.

Michael and Madonna have done some MANY excellent videos throughout their careers. How could you forget...

***"Billie Jean","Beat It","Thriller","Smooth Criminal","Leave Me Alone","Ghosts","Earth Song","Scream",etc by MJ? Many of his videos are like "mini-movies".

***"Like A Prayer","Vogue","Material Girl","Papa Don't Preach","Express Yourself","Ray Of Light","Human Nature","Bad Girl",etc by Madonna.

Prince has done a few truly great videos, but let's be honest. He just seems to have lost interest in videos and doesn't really put alot of imagination into them.

MTV Icon...nahhh...

Is that all this award is about? I thought is was an all around entertainment award. Didn't Areosmith recently have an Icon show dedicated to their music? I don't think of them when I think of innovative videos.

In any event I don't think Prince would want one.

Exactly, that's why I brought this topic up. It does not strictly deal with the aspect of videos-it deals more with the ICON status and Prince is truly an ICON. Whether he wants the award or not, I think it's worth trying.

You all are really negative about everything...I think its stupid that everyone here are so against this idea and a TV Special petition, why is it that you all think he wouldn't go through w/ an mtv icon show?
And please don't answer this question, because I already know the negative response...everyone thought he'd never do oprah or rosie, or muppets, and guess what! he did! duh!

Prince is mysterious and unpredictable at times and i'd think this be a good idea!

you all should light the "f" up and call Mtv and request that he be up for an ICON award!

Plus he deserves it and it doesn't mean he recieves this award for video quality, because he has had as many decent videos as Aerosmith and Janet JackMe!

He is a genius and he was one of the first artist to break the color lines on MTV, so he should be granted such award, just for being a huge part of music history for MTV!

So I agree w/ the idea and will call now!

Peace!

Prince was the first Black artist to appear on MTV, a rather Rock Tv channel at that time, it was with "Little Red Corvette".
Maybe he should be "iconed" for that smile

Yucks to you Skelty. Yes, we can get involved with this we can make sure MTV keeps Prince in mind as a recipient. Why not?

Thanks VAG!!!

Oh come on..Think about it for a second here...Try and be unbiased just for one minute...Look at the *art* of creating videos...Look at using MTV and the video format to create an *image*..Then think of the types of videos Prince created...and then think of what Prince currently stands for as an artist...

Then ask yourself, "Does MTV need Prince as an Icon...and does Prince want to be considered an Icon for MTV?"...

So many other artist have contributed to the video as art and im sorry if some fanatical fans cant see that Prince isnt one of them. Bjork, David Bowie, Micheal Jackson, Madonna...these are the types of acts that merrit all the things that this award stands for...Im not saying Prince isnt worthy of appreciation...Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...Kennedy Center Honors...

points WELL made, Skel..
I'll see you tonight..

I don't think that'll happen.
With the new religion and the big
influence on his side (tall, bass player)
He might consider it a form of idle worship.
The man won't even sign an autograph less likely
sit and attend a show that talks about how important
he is.

MTV Icon may not be about that but He may think so.
