Things That NEED To Happen! I'm sick & tired of Prince being treated crap! Okay, really - it's late, UTCM is on & I got a little axe to grind. Here's a few things that really do NEED to be made available to P fans everywhere:
a proper release of Purple Rain on DVD: it's a crime that this film hasn't been released in a letterbox version by now!! I'd love some outtakes, behind the scenes stuff (especially the making of the album) & commentary from P & the director. Morris & Crapples could chime in too. a live CD, ANY live CD: actually, I still want that Montreal Jazz Festival stuff, but I'll GLADLY take a live ONA show (please don't suggest a bootleg, I'm not that desperate yet) I'm sure there's more, but I'm sleepy & the "pizza man" scene is coming up... What am I forgetting? Chime in, please - let's make a list & email the shit outta somebody (Universal? WB? NPGMC? All of 'em?) NOCHES edited for the wardrobe bit... . Prince's engineer, Femi, said that a live
CD was definately gonna b released soon. He couldn't say when or which one. They need 2 remaster the early stuff and put that out too. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I personally can't relate to that DVD fever that's going around lately. Yeah, sure the thing is fantastic regarding quality and quantity -but the thing just don't drive me that mad.
Regarding PURPLE RAIN, UTCM, SOTT, GRAFFITI BRIDGE and so on DVD including extras, I find it far more than unlikely to happen. Things are a bit messy regarding ownership and that stuff, I'm afraid. And Prince's never been a quality freak at these things, never being strictly faithful to his history and/or career. It was pretty scary when they played with the idea of re-releasing all his back catalogue RE-recorded on NPG records, for instance. Look what they did with the "1999-new master" fiasco. Or Crystal Ball, which could have been done "a bit" better IMHO. ...A bit unsure also whether's a good idea to have a live album officially relesed. The "Days Of Wild" CD Single from the Montreal show is pretty good, but once again far away from being faithful with was actually performed. A bit too many overdubs and only God knows how many "edits". I don't think I'd really like a whole album in that vein.

I gotta agree on the "overdubs" comment...Prince tends to do that waaay too much on his live recordings...ironically--and sadly--the live versions of his concerts that I've heard on bootleg lately have sounded better than the latest live download on the npgmc site("1+1+1 Is 3")...just feels like Prince takes a live version, and tries to give it a studio feel...the rawness of the live recording gets lost, and it's that rawness which gives it power...and Prince live is very powerful...

That's it. I'm just afraid that he's not able to do justice with a live recording -the rare exception being the One Nite Alone 5 track promo EP from Indianapolis. That gives a little hope, but I must say I have my fingers crossed at these rumours of a ONA live album, the aftershow in N.Y. or that Xenophobia-thing advertised on the last download from the NPGMC.

I'm not too concerned about the overdubs & edits & sweetening he does to his live recordings. If the Indianapolis promo music is any indication of the quality of a Prince live cd then bring it on. I've listened to those songs everyday since I downloaded them & they are fantastic.

I'd definitely enjoy DVD releases of SOTT and UTCM. Also, a remastered widescreen version of Purple Rain with BONUS MATERIAL would be great!
The advantages of DVD over sad, old VHS are too numerous to count. It's easy to see the eventual demise of the VHS format altogether, for many of the same reasons that CD's replaced cassette tapes. But really, besides the members of this site and the NPGMC, would a single additional copy of UTCM sell anywhere? As for a live CD from Prince, I can imagine a faithful compilation the best recordings from the ONA Tour. It would be perfect for NPGMC members as one of our club CD's. If the Indianapolis trax are any indication of the recording quality available from the tour, it would instantly become my favorite CD. If it's anything like the Chicago ONA CD, then I'll be more than happy with the results...

I think prince should do no overdubs. The only thing he needs to do is record the show right, so that you here all the voices instruments and the audience itself like it was when performed.
That is the ultimate live recording to me. Btw Calhoun sq... did you see that nep2nes agreed with you? that's great for you two! You are not my "friend" because you threaten my security.

What, what, WHAAAT? Is this an official release? I haven't even heard of this. Somebody fill me in, please. A five-track EP was released to promote the One Nite Alone tour with songs from the Indianapolis gig -in perfect, true soundbioard quality. Apparently, that was sent to some radio stations. Some people in here seems to have a copy, but the most common way of getting it is by filesharing
